I’ve got one pair of Nukeproof Horizon trail pedals, the ones with a cage and a clip in the middle; and one pair of Shimano of similar design. The problem is that the platforms are different heights on each one.  With my trail shoes the sole doesn’t even touch the cage on the Nukeproof pedals. I don’t think there’s any way around this, is there? Even if I could get shallower cleats for the trail shoes then that would make them too stiff on the other pedals.  I guess I need two sets of Nukeproof pedals.  Does anyone else have this problem?

Im pretty sure that a Nukeproof cleat is deeper than a shimano cleat so if you run 2 different sets of pedals you need dedicated shoes for each.

Hmm, I’m not actually sure what cleats are on my shoes. However if they are NP then I can perhaps swap for Shimano and solve the issue? ISTR reading that NP weren’t quite compatible with Shimano, but maybe it’s the depth that is the issue.  I can certainly try some Shimano cleats.

Genuine Q, honest:  Does it matter ?  I always assumed that the platform bit was there in case you missed/lost the binding

Seems to me that if you’re clipped in then you’re “securely” attached and don’t need that extra support

Bendy shoes can leave you with hot spots if the sole doesn’t touch the platform.

i’ve ran my shimano and 510 shoes, both with shimano multi release cleats on my dmr v twins and nukeproof cl’s with no issues, i haven’t tried my Leatt shoes with NP cleats and spacer on the DMR pedals yet though, only the NP pedals.

in that scenario i have had no issues with cleat and platform interface.. but the platform is adjustable on the vtwins so perhaps i just had good luck

I’m pretty sure it’s just there as a rock guard to try to keep the mechanism safe. Pretty useful round here – though the pedals start looking a but tatty after a while.

Maybe my shoes are stiffer but I’ve never really noticed any difference between platform and XC-style pedals in use (other than how quickly the mechanisms get pummelled).

Not hugely.  The reason I got some is that for me, my foot can rock side to side and this puts a lot of strain on the cleat attachment.  Most of the time this starts to break down which may or may not write off the shoe.  The ones with platform are certainly more stable for me, and allow the use of slightly more flexible shoes which are nicer to wear.

I think some of them have big platforms which can be used un-clipped, but mine aren’t that big.  But they do add extra lateral support and it’s quite nice – when the cleat is the right height, of course.

I’m running Shimano Saint pedals – I have installed longer pins (than the standard ones) which engage the sole properly.

maybe you could use some longer ones on the NP pedals, if they can be replaced.

    just ordered mine online. Cheap.
