How much does the “cheap” one weigh?

Frankly I don’t think there’s any point in saying “how much??” anymore. They’re obviously priced because people will buy them, and considering how many people use this forum, it’s likely someone here is eyeing it up.

List price for a Honda CBR500 – about £6.5k. List price of e-pushbikes is **** madness.

I’m sorry but bike prices are becoming stupid. £12 grand for a mountain bike regardless of what or how good how do they justify the price?

Suron off road electric bike £4500 upto 50mph, is the ability to pedal to 15mph worth £8k extra?

Pivot do tend to be at the “how much??!” end of things even without motors…£8k for a Firebird Pro? Errr, I’ll take two… 😐

How much does that surron weigh? And where can you legally ride it?

    Stupid comparison is stupid.

No, my point is that we hear that the bikes prices are justified because of the off road capability, the motor etc etc. Its a nonsense, what the f**ck is weight to do with it, its an ebike b***end. legally ride? – nothing to do with it, i’m talking about the manufacturing costs.

So 4 and a half grand for something that could be taken off you if you ride it anywhere other than your back garden? Great.

You could go through all the rigmarole of getting a license, taxing & insuring it, but if your gonna do that, why not get a grown up MX bike?

As far as i know, they are’t illegal on the road. The price is the on the road price. Fox suspension, 40 DH forks etc. Or yes even 180mph road bikes for half the money. Th price of mountain bikes has always been justified by the fact they go off road and can take you places other bikes can’t. However now you can full electric for half the money of a pedally one, same suspension, tyres – off road capability. I can’t see the justification anymore other than profiteering and selling because a few people buy them. I can’t see a sustainable sport in it either, it’ll end up a sport for tossers with trust funds.

If you register, tax and insure them. Same as a regular motorbike. Try taking a regular Moto to a trail centre, see how far you get.

The point about pedal assist ebikes is that they can go anywhere a bicycle can, with no restrictions (As long as it’s 250w, no throttle and assistance is limited to 15.5mph)

To those that say ‘they are all motorbikes’ that’s like saying a Tesla is the same as a mobility scooter.

    Is it?

Likening a bike that’s limited to 15mph to one that’s as fast as they can make it, and needs registering, taxing and insuring plus the rider licensed, because electricity, to a ‘car’ that’s limited to 8mph to one that’s as fast as they can make it, and needs registering, taxing and insuring, and the driver licensed? Also electricity.

All i am saying is that the previous arguments to try and justify the price of ebikes are void with the likes of Surron. You can do more runs, go further and cover the same terrain for half the money – in South Africa they’re using solar powered ones in anti poaching patrols for instance. I’m not concerned or justifying the price because your allowed to ride in certain places or about laws etc. I’m just pointing out that pedally ebikes are massively overpriced.
