Outin Nano espresso maker

Has anyone come across one of these (or similar)?

Seems like a neat gadget for travelling, I could see it being useful for me if I have to go to the office or see a customer, or for occasional hotel stays and camping.

Unless you specifically want it to use with pods I can’t really see the point myself over just an aeropress that you don’t need to worry about charging etc., or am I missing something?

Weighing like a loaf of bread less than 700g, you can take Outin Espresso Machine anywhere for espresso with its travel-sized shape.

What I can tell you about these things is that unless you can leave them several hours to dry after use, you will end up with traces of coffee all over your stuff if they share the same bag. They’re also a bit of a pain in the neck to clean and don’t actually get as hot as you’d like. I bought a manual one a couple of years ago and it just sits in the cupboard now.

Never seen anything quite like it, I’m intrigued.

for years. It makes good coffee, but doesn’t heat up the water like the one your looking at.

20 Bar pressure sounds too good to be true.

I have a billati mini expresso – it makes good coffee IMO.  700 g is heavy to carry.  When weight matters I use the cafetiere bit on my jetboil.

I can see the appeal, any other portable solution requires you to heat water separately so I bet it works out lighter and more compact than anything else.

I don’t know if 20bar pressure is necessary, espresso machines should work at 9 bar or less.

It looks very much like the coffee machines that have repeatedly done the rounds on crowdfunding sites for years (I fell for the “hey Joe*” version) either not delivering or delivering a very very poor off the shelf product.
I can’t see this being anything more than the later of those two, they’ve been around under one name of another for a number of years but there’s never been a good one. cheap AliExpress type tat wrapped in varying levels of finish and marketing and a correspondingly increasing price.

Get something like the above wacaco if you’re wanting a portable espresso machine, though my personal experience with those sorts of things is they’re no better than an aeropress [not an aeropress evangelist, ymmv]

Another Wacaco Nanopresso user here, been going over 2 years, you can also get a Nespresso pod adaptor for it which is less fuss and mess when out and about. Of course you need to heat some water (or have a flask of it) but it doesn’t sound like the Outin gets hot enough anyway.

I also use a Wacaco Nanopresso here.

I have the adaptor for pod use too which keeps the campervan a bit less filthy.

Both the pods and ground coffee makes a good shot of wake up juice.

I will wait for James Hoffman’s review before going for it.

Travelling seems like the best use of an aeropress, granted you need a kettle, but even if you’re camping I reckon you could make all the doings weight less than 700g.

I can’t see any pressure adjustment, so at 20bar it’s just going to produce a really overextracted cup of crap!

Thanks for the insights. It did look like a kickstarter type product and there are plenty of 10% off codes which made me a bit suspicious. I still kinda want one, but now I want a nanopresso too which seems a bit more tried and tested.

Decided to finally get myself an aeropress go to satisfy my urge for now.

Wacaco Nanopresso here too. I really rate it. Also got the Barista kit for it, so have a bigger water tank, and can take some spare prefilled baskets with me too. Regular cleaning is needed though.

Go for the nanopresso, you won’t regret it.

I have a little flask that screws directly on, but I don’t think they sell that anymore. A normal flask will work nearly as well.
I also bought the Nespresso add-on, as this is handy on a long trip out. I’d also buy a decent portable cup, as using the included cup/cap is a bit plasticky.

It has served me well.  A while ago my espresso machine broke, so for a time I just had the nanopresso. It’s a bit of a faff first thing in the morning if you’re brewing for more than one person, but it does make a good coffee.

I have a minipresso and a picopresso. The picopresso is quite a bit better. Holds a proper amount of coffee in a real basket. Does benefit from being warmed through before use, but I can get a half decent espresso out of it – markedly better than the minipresso.

Anyone able to offer experience of one of the Wacaco products versus a Leverpresso V4? I’ve had an Aeropress for years but would really prefer something closer to an Espresso, whilst acknowledging the limitations of a portable maker.

Or even, did anyone take the plunge on the Outin?
