  • Old style LWB Transit Connect – bike straight in?

Looking for a new van, and I fancy a new style LWB connect. However, have spotted an old style high roof, LWB one with a good spec. The fact it’s a few thousand cheaper than the current ones due to it’s age is definitely colouring my interest.

Anyone know if a 29er hardtail, (which is my longest bike) will go straight in straight with the wheels on? Diagonal is a PITA because it makes bad use of the space. It has a bulkhead fitted.

My cx fits in a normal one without really trying it. 1 row of seats or two?

Standard van, just one row of seats.

They’re also hateful things to be in for any distance. They were only an improvement on the Escort Van as the Escort was monumentally awful.

Not driven the new style connect but if they’re anything like the Custom or Courier, it’ll be loads better.

Not only will it fit straight in you’ll be able to wedge the tire in one of the rust holes that’s either in the floor or about to develop in the floor.

Probably even be able to secure it by poking the handle bars into one of the holes on the side .

Rusty rusty things…. Have to ask your self whyyou don’t really see tooo many of them on the road these days compared to the numbers you used to see

The new ones really are a different league

I drove a new style last week ..it is probably the nicest small van I have driven ( regularly in Doblos , combos bippers partners etc..)

Can’t answer your question though ..

I had an old style swb, bike went straight in with wheel turned.

Was fine to drive and super reliable, if its a good price, go for it.

Thanks for the extra info gents, helpful and much appreciated. Might just bite the bullet on the price of a second gen. one.

I was a bit harsh but they are getting close to 20 years old design wise.

You’ll be very lucky to find an old connect without terminal rust, i had an 11yr old in excellent mechanical order but the arse just fell out it and it wasn’t viable to repair.

Not visibly corroded, but I’ll be having a bloody good look underneath if I do go to view.

    Van.
