Just got on a train at London Euston, and the one after ours had a stop listed AT CREWPLP. 5 minutes before Crewe proper station. What gives?

Its the name for Crewe Pottery Loop Up & Down, I’m guessing a loop line/junction that runs in both directions but I’m probably wrong. edit – it’s a passing place on single lines after a quick google

Found it on this list here – http://www.railwaycodes.org.uk/crs/CRSc.shtm

So a slight diversion to the regular route rather than some wired platform 9 3/4 additional stop? Wish I’d got on that train!

Possibly a timing location, for the signaller/driver to know what time the train should pass that point.

You can look up the full schedule for the train at Realtime Trains. It should include all of these timing points that it is passing by.

They shouldn’t usually be shown in the public schedules, on the train or at the station. Maybe someone pressed the wrong button on the computer.

It is the potteries loop. I sign a very small part of it for stunting purposes.
As craig said above it’s not public info, that’s the kind of info a driver would have on their docket to show the route they’re taking.

    *shunting.

Although stunt train driving would liven the day up!

On my regular-ish journey from AGV TO NWP I love the fact that there are still request stops further down the line for places like Sugar Loaf (SUG) 😎

If you want to get into the real nitty gritty look up Stanox Codes.

Click ‘Detailed’ on realtimetrains for trainspotter detail. I used it a couple of times on ECML to try and figure out whats really going on when trains stop moving.
