No time to pee (Bond spoilers)

Finally watched it this evening.
Patchy (silly) in places, but good enough. Not quite Casino Royale, but then again happily not quite Spectre.
EMP watch / nanobots plot hole a bit irritating but I guess necessary for where they were taking the story.
I’d rather they go down the 007 can be whoever route rather than a hard James Bond reboot, but suspect they won’t. Probably do both?
If they go reboot, hope they give the gig to Tom Hardy but again worry they’ll go a bit Moore on us with Cavill/Madden/Norton…
stanfreeFree MemberI liked it and i’m not the biggest bond fan . Yup it was way more far fetched than any other but the locations were amazing and great to see the Cairngorms doubling as Norway in the land rover getting owned by an auld toyota scene.
Daniel Craig has been good , hopefully Tom hardy or Sam Heughan next. Anyone know where the bridge was before the land rover scene. ? Also the agent in cuba was utterly smoking hot.batfinkFree MemberI watched it at the weekend – for full disclosure, I would classify myself as a bond “fan”.
I enjoyed it – it’s a good film. It obviously requires the usual suspension of logic that Bond films do, but not in a way I found jarring – the virus vs nanobots thing was quite obvious. Plot was good, script was pretty good, performances were good. Bond was a lot more human in this installment – he was less cool, calm and collected, and spent longer being confused/surprised. No bad thing, just different.
I think I probably agree with most of the criticism on here – didn’t find Rami Malek’s baddie particularly terrifying and thought it was a shame that in 2.5 hrs we couldn’t have had a bit more of him.
Thought Ana De Armas’s character (Paloma? I think) was excellent – am hoping that she appears in future films as Felix Leiter’s replacement. I feel a bit sad that they killed off the felix character, as he’s been a fixture throughout and it didn’t seem to be required by the plot at all. I suppose he had previously been half eaten by a shark in one of Dalton’s films/books – so it doesn’t really matter.
I enjoyed the film, but I’m going to reserve judgement until we see whether they go with the next one:
I think they will go down the hard reboot route, James Bond will return, all cast will be different, nobody will remember anything etc etc. JB will be 15 – 20 years younger again and off we go on a new set of adventures.
This is my guess too. It’s notable that (with the exception of one throwaway line in OHMSS) Craig’s bond series is the only one where there are plots/links between films – and I wonder how much of what has been covered in the last few films will endure, if anything.
I think James Bond having a daughter is very interesting – aren’t there a bunch of Young Bond books? *googles* yes, yes there are. Could be kind of interesting, and would maybe open the door to a female James-Bond type character without upsetting a load of middle aged men.
I’ve always subscribed to the “James Bond is a codename” theory – even after skyfall/spectre p*ssed all over it. And unless they are going to do some kind of retro-infill movies, they have essentially just confirmed that this is indeed the case (“James Bond Will return”).
I don’t think the new bond should be a woman – mostly because it will give creedence to some peoples fears that in order for women to get better/stronger parts in Hollywood, then they have to “take” them from men, and that fans of the traditional bond will somehow be losing something as a result of the onward march of feminism/wokeism. Just to be clear – I don’t feel like that, but if they arbitrarily replaced Bond with a woman, then they would kind-of have a point.
I hope it’s Cavill next….. the man from Uncle was the best Bond audition anyone could ever do, and I see him as really the only one after Craig who could pull-off the combination of action/physicality and comedy/charm of the bond character. Otherwise my money would be on James Norton or Richard Madden – both of which feel a bit Meh…. and more “spooks” than Bond.
timmysFull MemberIn the world of Bond nerdism, these two statements are considered incompatible;
I would classify myself as a bond “fan”.

zilog6128Full MemberTBH if you’re coming up with theories about JB then you’re way overthinking it. He’s the worlds’ most secret agent but is too pimp to want or even need to hide his identity. 😃
batfinkFree MemberMy thought process involved: hearing the theory, thinking “hmmm, yes that seems to fit…. ish”, and then going about my day.
IdleJonFree MemberAnyone know where the bridge was before the land rover scene. ?
The Atlantic Ocean Road in Norway, I think?
CheesybeanZFull MemberI enjoyed it .
he’s pushing 40 , probably too old by the time they start filming the next movie.
nwmlargeFree MemberI enjoyed it and was grinning so much in the first part where they had the chase and car gadgets etc.
I was confused as to why the EMP watch blew up mateys eye but didn’t kill the radio earpiece he had in…
I think it will be hard to top DC’s bond either way.
chrispofferFull MemberApparently it’ll be out to stream with Amazon and Sky from the 19th – ideal for those that don’t want to sit in the cinema for all that time!
We’ll be watching it at home over the next week or so I think, we both enjoyed the last couple but probably wouldn’t make the effort to get to the cinema to see it.
sam_underhillFull MemberOut on stream services to rent today. Disappointing no UHD stream on amazon prime UK.
edhornbyFull MemberI’d rather not Tom Hardy, I don’t think he’s that good an actor and I’d much prefer it to be an unknown, or less high profile, actor because the films are big enough to carry it. That way you can give it to someone who can act and give it their own identity.
timmysFull MemberDisappointing no UHD stream on amazon prime UK.
Jokers.
Available in UHD, Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos on Apple TV (for the same price as Amazon)
timmysFull MemberWon’t be Tom Hardy (or Henry Cavill). Too old and too well known, EON will want someone they can have more control over than an established name like that. With any luck to bang out a film every two years for a bit – but that’s probably over ambitious!
I’d also recommended this podcast;
https://play.acast.com/s/smershpod
It’s brill at all times, and very much a comedy podcast rather than a serious film one, but the presenter knows his Bond chops and the guest for the No Time to Die episode is a writer from Empire. They had a lot of interesting things to say.sam_underhillFull MemberJokers.

yeah, I keep thinking about getting an apple tv box (no app on my panasonic oled and firestick apple tv app maxes out at HD for some reason). Maybe the perfect excuse.
MoreCashThanDashFull MemberFinally just watched it. A bit dusty here
For all its faults, it’s quite moving. (Are we still avoiding spoilers?)
DickBartonFull MemberWe have to…the Bladerunner thread got amended to mention it had spoilers despite it being a 40 year old film…
ads678Full MemberI avoided this thread and anything else so went into the film completely fresh, didn’t even watch a trailor.
Loved it. Very dusty. Even my son who laughed at his mum and I for crying when Goose died when we watch top gun the other week was blubbing! He does love bond though.
DC has been the greatest bond. Reboots or spin offs later, whatever being them on. A female 00 is fine, give her a proper back story and go for it.
James Bond though is a man, don’t care what colour he is, but he is a man.
Great film though. Flawed yep, but it’s Bond, who cares!
Harry_the_SpiderFull MemberFinally got round to seeing it today and managed to avoid all of the spoilers.
How easy is it to flip a Land Rover?
pondoFull MemberBest thing to do with them. 🙂
Got the DVD (THAT came out quick!) and watched it again, I see Paul Edmondson done the stunt bike jumping, and my childhood hero Rob Herring got two credits, for stunt bloking and precision drivering. 🙂
granny_ringFull MemberWatched it on Amazon boxing day.
I enjoyed it for what it is and yes, needed a toilet & drink break, so glad I wasn’t at the cinema. 😁uponthedownsFree MemberSaw it Chrstmas day. Best Bond since the second Casino Royale so at least Daniel Craig went out on a high after wasting his time and collecting millions in between. Maybe its an age thing but woke Bond just doesn’t work for me. Surely the well has now run dry and its best to leave him in the 60s and 70s and move on.
blackhatFree MemberDaniel Craig has been a great Bond but I don’t think I can forgive him burying him – totally egotistical behaviour where he believed he was bigger than the franchise. Sure, every change of star entails a reboot but it has never entailed a resurrection.

Yep really irked me that they had to kill Bond, after 30 years and numerous actors stepping into the role. Seemed a tad arrogant.
Only bits I really liked was the db6 in the square and the Cuban agent who was well under utilised.
I think it went up it’s own arse with the homages and totally lost the plot.
Rockape63Free MemberWell that was 2 hrs and 40 mins I’m never going to get back. Ludicrous plot and unbelievable scenes, made it a dismal experience. Plus, he looked soo old!
pondoFull MemberLudicrous plot and unbelievable scenes
You’ve not seen a Bond film before, I take it?
MrSalmonFree MemberPretty disappointing I thought. Craig was a great Bond, but I think the films have got steadily worse since Casino Royale. I liked that CR was kind of smaller stakes, no shadowy worldwide organisation or baddies with huge secret bases and plans to take over the world But every film since CR they’ve been steadily marching back towards that and I think they’ve been worse for it.
Craig did a good job of making the character more of a whole person and the stuff about the various knocks taking their toll and whether he was still up to it was good. But all that stuff with Blofeld being part of his past or whatever was tosh I thought. Maybe it was just one Bond too many for me.It’ll be interesting to see what they do next though – they could have rebooted the whole thing without killing him off, after all. Killing off Felix for good measure really smacked of clearing the decks I thought. Maybe it’s time for no more Bond and another 00 instead, but I can’t see that the new/current 007 is going to be the focus from now on, because they didn’t really do enough with her to set up that handover IMO.

It isn’t a resurrection though is it, they literally just tell different stories of Bond in a different time. Otherwise Bond would be over 90 years old by now.

Neither can I. Maybe it was the way her part was written or the actress herself but I didnt find her character engaging at all.
RustyNissanPrairieFull MemberWatched a few weeks ago.
Christopher Waltz’s performance in Inglorious Bastard’s still gives me shivers now – perfect to play the world’s biggest baddie.
“OH NO THE NANOBOTS ARE GOING TO GET HIM – HE’S GOING TO TEAR HIS OWN FACE OFF IN SCREAMING PAIN AND AGONY”
“oh….he’s meekly slumped over and died”

Female007 might have a license to kill but she didn’t have an Equity license.dudeofdoomFull MemberIt isn’t a resurrection though is it, they literally just tell different stories of Bond in a different time. Otherwise Bond would be over 90 years old by now.
It’s a pantomime thou, you normally just roll out a different actor who’ll do a slightly different take on it. You don’t normally kill off widow twankey.
thols2Full MemberI’m with Tom Nichols on this, and seeing as the Empire died decades ago, either cast a geriatric as Bond or just stop making Bond movies.
And there it is. Allow me to just say that women should never be allowed to choose Bond actors. Bond is a booze-swilling, womanizing relic of the British Empire, not the hunk in a Christmas Hallmark movie.
Bring the hate. I don’t care. I have never been more right in my life. ? https://t.co/HxVsy9yxvv— Tom Nichols (@RadioFreeTom) January 22, 2022
dyna-tiFull MemberI hope it’s Cavill next
My money’s on Tom Hardy
I thought Lashana Lynch has been introduced as the latest 007 agent. Or is this going to be a ‘Bond’ role with perhaps Tom Hardy filling Bond’s boots.
DracFull MemberI thought Lashana Lynch has been introduced as the latest 007 agent
No she hasn’t. Remember she handed the number back to Bond. I believe she was brought in as satire towards all those claiming the next bond would have to a black woman for todays PC world.
