This is really just an excuse to post this pic…

I knew I wanted an Ohlins 38 for my next big bike because I love the 36 on my Privateer. (Which I might have to sell- stealth ad!)

The problem is they’re bloody expensive and really hard to find. Imagine my surprise when I found one in stock at my old LBS, on sale, and a bit of Googling unearthed a discount code. I couldn’t resist.

The second problem is that I have no idea what frame they’re going on yet. I have a mental shortlist obviously but there’s absolutely nothing available on the used market currently. I was thinking Madonna, HB.916, G1 etc.

No doubt I’ll have lots of time to ponder and search for frames when I’m back at work tomorrow.

    Nice.

As I’ve said before, decent forks are an investment in your long term health. 75 year old you will thank current you when they can still tie their shoes and drink tea without splashing it everywhere.

Definitely a long term investment. I tend not to chop and change bikes very much so these will see me right for a long while yet.

Unless 36″ wheels take off and I feel the need to switch.

    Nice 👍

What was wrong with their smaller fork? Just for more travel?

Also, what are you going to do with the OG bombers? Other than own people obviously

The song “what a difference a day cough fork makes” came to mind ;d

It’s awesome but it’s but it’s on the Privateer 141 Ohlins edition with the coil shock and I want to keep that bike in tact. (Or maybe switch it for something lighter and livelier, see my Druid thread!)

This is for a bikepark/uplift/holiday bike.

I’m you want to fit them to a 2019 G16 Longer (Medium) with a freshly serviced Storia V3 for about £900, then PM me.

That would be a self owning with bombers? They’re rare them.

I also got a new fork today, though it has a home.

2022 model for less than half price because no-one wants 27.5.
A mate also has Ohlins suspension on his new RAAW Madonna build he’s taking an age to finish.

I went to work today and ended up actually working so no bike shopping so far.

During an extended toilet stop I did decide that a Claymore MX looks amazing but they’re bloody expensive and my size doesn’t ship until November.

A HB.916 looks amazing but is also bloody expensive. Not sure on availability. I think it’s outside of my financial tolerance levels anyway. I’d seriously consider it if I wasn’t paying out for so much other stuff at the minute.

Airdrop Edit MX is in the lead. Ohlins versions due mid July, just in time for trip to Morzine. Probably better for what I want anyway, I’m not looking for a race bike.

Sorry, I’m keeping the Bombers. They’re trashed but they’re a decent ornament. I got them from the scrap pile at the LBS.

What’s trashed in them? I trashed the lowers on mine (snapped disk mount off). The uppers and internals are sat around in the garage somewhere.

Looking at Madone, HB.916 and G1 is a great start, although not on a budget. Airdrop Edit MX with Ohlins sounds like a good option for a trip to Morzine. This is important to consider if you are looking for an all-around bike rather than a racing bike.
