My new Whyte 19C bike has eventually landed and has been taken out for its maiden ride…(after these pics were taken!)

My first carbon frame with donor parts from my old bike and a few lovely new bits (mainly transmission).

Very, very happy – big thanks to the team at Mountain Trax 😀

    Seriously not impressed.

The fence needs kerosote and the grass is far too long.

Yup – you should see the dandelions & daisies – just out of shot! We like the meadow look…

    PHWOOOOOAAAARRRR!!!!

    That is utterly lovely!

    How much doesn't it weigh?

The frame itself is stupidly light – unfortunately we had to put some bits on to make it work, so it sits at dead-on 23lbs…

Utterly sad but do you have a rough spec list?

I've got my Stumpy HT (alu) pretty light now but am starting to look at both Ti (including the Whyte) and Carbon (including the Whyte) frames. Uh oh…

That frame is a work of art.

    Surf-Mat re

    rough spec list

    – do you mean the 19 frame geometry etc or the spec of my build?

I'm guessing here but……I bet its bloody nippy? 😆

    mmm I like that.
Never mind the weight I dare not guess at how much it cost.

Don't see enough green on bikes, very nice.

Your mech goes the wrong way though.

Nippy – yes. Just had one ride so far over the Malverns, in daylight early today and there were quite a few walkers and dogs about but it felt rapid and extremely composed. I'll test its true pace in the hours of darkness!!! 😉

    Surf-Mat, spec as follows:
    New bits first:
Whyte 19C Frame, FSA Carbon Pro Team chainset, XTR front mech, XTR 11-34 cassette, Easton EC70 Carbon post and a Yumeya chain!!
Old bits from my donor bike:
Raceface Next Carbon Riser bars, Easton EA50 stem, Mavic Crossmax XL rims, Manitou Skareb 'Super' fork, XTR discs and 'flappy paddle' shifters, XTR rear mech and a now very tatty looking Specialized BG saddle.

The saddle and stem are likely to be upgraded soon but will need to wait for some deals on a nice new 100mm fork.

    Nice!

Highly recommend the Spesh Phenom SL saddle (carbon and ti) – very comfy, very light.

    Very nice, subtle colours.

I'm awaiting a few parts in the post then my first carbon hardtail will be ready to build up. Can't wait for that first ride feeling.

Nice, get yourself a chainstay protector and some heli tape on the seat stay. You'll get chain slap up there.

Cheers for the comments and saddle recommendations.

FWIW my son (13) HATES the shifters and pedals and reckons the frame is made out of cardboard!

Heli tape is the way forward I have done it all the way along the chain stay under my lizard skin. Had a bit of chain suck on the giant XTC Carbon and took the paint clean off…. well stressed about it!!!! £800 frame now with a nice bit of paint missing..RUBBISH..
Ps bike looks great, you wont be sorry, carbon rocks 8)
