Looking to replace my pretty old Bergaus hydration pack. I probably carry to much kit around but I like a back pack big enough for a first aid kit a pump a few spares some grub and waterproof so the small camel backs are not big enough. I was looking at the Camel back HAWG which seems like a decent size, what else should I consider are the Osprey bags any good? I looked at one in a shop and the magnetic bite valve holder looked a bit rubbish. I quite liked the way the bladder was seperate from the main bag though. Any advice?

Had an Osprey Raptor for over a year, great features. Buy one!

I’ve got one and love it.

You miss the magnetic bite valve holder when you use another pack that doesn’t have it.

I’ve got an Osprey Talon 22 – best pack I’ve ever had by far.

I bought the 10 litre one in what I consider to be a moment of madness. How much for a small rucsac, tube and bag!!!!

But a year on it has worked really well. There is a limit to the amount of spare clothing it will fit but its only an issue when carrying stuff for the kids

things I like (not necassirly unique but things I’ve used)

seperate phone type pocket at the top
rigid back means its never floppy
rigid bladder and handle means it easy to fill
bite valve has locked off position meaning no leaks
magnet to hold bite valve out the way
back pocket thing takes os map or d lock
    pocket with key hook
    it seems well made
will take a mountain morph pump
clever helmet holder (actually onlyused once)
