I dont get some people on here- if there is a thread for a type of bike or riding/ religious persuasion that doesnt float my boat I just look at another thread instead- fair enough if its a challenging type of post along the lines of asking why people like a bike hold a view etc but some people just seem to want to criticise seemingly quite often without even having tried said bike/riding/ religion etc etc- it makes me a bit sad 🙁

After a fair bit of pushing/carrying our mountain bikes on the Southern Upland way a few weeks back, me and my brother decided one of these would be perfect for a lot of the off road parts.

Shibboleth – its pretty small minded to write something off for everyone just because you can’t imagine yourself having a use for it.

    What pop said.^^^

Apart from the makes me a bit sad bit.

It makes me feel a bit sorry for them that they write stuff off without trying it.

Keef, how did you get that 4″ tyre in the back end? 🙂
I had an old green Humu(massif name one…) that i wanted to build as a SS full fat but could only get a 3″ skinny in 😀

Cut & shut?, any close pics?

I built mine for riding mainly on sand at the coast but as CoastKid says, you can use it for anything. In fact, I like mine so much I’m building a second bike!

I like your style Keef! Nice touch on the rear stays!

I’m also building another, after selling off most of my “normal” bikes. 1 set up for beach/coast riding & 1 for XC trail riding.

Anyway, back on topic, nice build Cozz, how you finding it compared to the Pug?

picking up the 29er 3.5 today it’s going to be monster, best idea for forks has come from sideways tim with using a stuffed sc32 spaced up as a rigid as the size of the wheel will foul most fat unicrown forks.

I can get hold of a “normal” wheel size fat version as well, and2.75 and 3″ 29er nobblies although a 3″ “skinny” 29er on the rear should give a similar weight distribution as 26″ endo (ish)

the frankenfatbike tradition is alive and well over here

finding it great, does feel more lively than the ougs, but till well planted

only done 30 odd miles on it so far – 15 mile night ride last night, really like the riding position,

should get some stickers made up that say “I don’t care that you don’t understand”

See I’ll admit I like things that aren’t the norm, I also like monster trucks, tonka, tractors diggers etc (ever since I was a kid) I also like mountain bikes so this appeals to me

I think its funny people saying that fat bikes are just a fashion – since when do I care – ive got one cos I like then not because they are niche

Now that a few dealers have a demo fat bike I would recommend trying one out – as many are surprised by them

till then they will carry on not making much sense, but making lots of fun

Despite not being my thing , I’ve seen the fun Coastkid and at least a half dozen others get up here In East Lothian on there Fatties. With the winters forecast looking really dodgy I think they might be out riding whilst we are sat inside on STW.

I have ditched my full Suss as I worked out in the end it was of No advantage to me- I could ride everything on my HT that I rode on the FS so what was the point?

There is room in the shed for one of these though – it is different enough to be interesting.

Well personally I consider these ‘fat bikes’ to be terribly dull and vanilla. Everyone knows they have become too common now, I ride one of these to make me feel superior and special

I ride one of these to make me feel superior and special

See that’s the bit i just can’t get my head round.
Everyone I know that has a fatbike couldn’t care less what anyone that’s never riden one thinks of them.
They’re to busy having fun on them. It’s not about how they look it’s how they bring a smile to your face when you ride them.

You do now how to smile don’t you grum?

    😆

I’m sure some people are just about the fun aspect, but it’s pretty clear the mentality of some is that they like to feel special and different, and sneer at the boring mainstream ‘trail monkeys’ who don’t spend their time riding through a flat bog – whatever floats your boat I guess.

I wouldn’t mind a go on one of these – I can see it could be fun – just not on a beach/bog. And I don’t think that riding one would make me superior to other people as some seem to.

It makes me feel a bit sorry for them that they write stuff off without trying it.

I feel a bit sorry for people who need an unusual bike to make themselves feel special, and are constantly unsatisfied and looking for the next fad. 😉

Again i can’t get my head round the way you think people feel when they ride a particular bike. 😕

Why would you even care how they felt?

Would you care how they felt if they were on the same bike as you?

Maybe it’s your problem not theirs?

BTW I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again.
You’re* welcome to have a blast on any of my bikes. Including the fatbike. Hell you could even ride it round a trail centre if you wanted. 😆

They’re quite good fun at trail centres.

*Or anyone else for that matter

Theres allot of assumption about what other people are thinking + what motivates their behavior goes on on here.
Glad you’re having fun on the bike. Looks like a very steep head angle, or is that just the pic?

That’s what it’s all about. Fun.

I think that’s just the way the lens distorts stuff that’s close to it.

you wouldn’t want a slack HA on a fatbike unless it was for riding flat out down volcanoes while being chased by molten lava.

half the fannies on here that want/now have slack HA bikes don’t need them either.

Tbh- I dont think I would get enough use out of one to justify buying one for a grand upwards -but they do look quite a bit of fun and I enjoyed the brief spin on the On one prototype at ssuk.

If people like them and it gets them smiling- its all good for me.

Interested in keefs kona- how much did you put that together for matey?

I already mentioned one (whoever was talking about ‘trail monkeys’), CBA trawling through other threads but it’s there alright. Not just my opinion either, STW is pretty well known as a haven for niche snobbishness.

STW is pretty well known as a haven for niche snobbishness.

If that’s the case why do you come on here and search out threads about bikes that you have no inerest in?

Apart from to keep banging on about how people feel when they ride bikes different to yours.

It must be a bit confusing for you when the same people ride there other more regular bikes. 😆

I’d still like you to answer my previous questions too.

Why would you even care how they felt?

Would you care how they felt if they were on the same bike as you?

Maybe it’s your problem not theirs?

I don’t have ‘no interest in’ them – as I’ve said several times I think they could be fun. And generally I like it here – apart form the **** niche snobbery. 😉

Why would you even care how they felt?

I don’t really – it just strikes me as a bit lame. It’s funny how defensive you get about it though, despite claiming not to care what others think. 😆

Would you care how they felt if they were on the same bike as you?

    Eh?

Maybe it’s your problem not theirs?

    It’s not really a problem…

Actually, I find it exactly the opposite. Seems like there’s a few folk here willing to experiment and they’re always willing to pass on their experiences. I associate snobbishness with a closed mind.
