We will be in touch
Hi,
Just wondered if anyone has used one of these on a MTB and if they are safe?

I've been given a set of some forks that someone didn't want but the steerer tubes about 30mm too short. Just wondered if this would work as a fix instead of trying to find somewhere to fit a new tube.
This looks a bit better, though uglier:

Would mean the bars would be high though
These were designed with steel steerers in mind, the sidewalls of which are thinner, and uniform. If you are using with an alloy steerer, the extender that the op mentioned will not fit down inside the steerer tube as the walls are thicker, and are tapered internally.
Sorry 🙁
and Yes I am speaking from first hand experience.....
Gab - I have fitted one to an alloy steerered bike. I did get some machining done to it to get a perfect fit. Its heavy and must be aweak point - but in practice I found it to be fine. I wouldn't use one a a bike pushed hard
That animation on the NVO site is a bit phalic 😉
On a serious note, I ran some RC31's with a short steerer. The steerer came just above the lower bolt line on the clamp, so I used an off-cut of steerer to make up the difference. I used a long Amoeba stem bolt that went through the whole length of steerer & into a bung that went in the underside of the forks. I ran this for months without any problems, but to be fair we're talking fire-road mincing on a winter ss. I wouldnt have done anything heavy on it.
Dont expect the STW safety council to approve though. 😉
