Am on the lookout for a new lid. My big-but-narrow 61 cm head usually means XL but although most helmets fit front-to-back there’s always a gap around the sides. So far I’ve tried

    * Troy Lee A1 – comfortable but too wide
    * Bell Super – as above
    * POC Trabec – small and round
    * Met Parabellum – getting there but the cradle fitted better than the actual shell
    * 7iDP – as above
    * Giro Feature – probably the best but still a bit wide and the non-adjustable straps killed it

Have tried smaller sizes of the same models but there’s always forehead pressure.

Getting bored with sending them back now. Anyone else with a big/narrow head what have you got?

Same problem here – I have two Specialized helmets now, I think them models are Propero and Vice but I don’t see them on Spec site now.

I’ve got a 63cm head but my 7idp fits with a little room to spare, must be a head shape problem.

I have the same problem- helmets have room at the sides but tight at the front. Bought a bontrager rally on the strength of this review and find it fits very well. It’s quite a ‘big’ helmet but seems to match the others you’ve looked at. FWIW I used to find giros quite good

Giro xar does the job for me as does a Bell Supee. Trip the MIPS version in the Bell as the cradle inside is slightly different.

Similar issues with my odd shaped head. I always find fox, specialized or met the best fits

Specialized Tactic II fits my long, thin 60cm head comfortably when little else does – oh, and the Bell Stoker Halfords cheapy. (Other specialized models, and most other helmets, tbh, fit like bin lids.)

I’ve always found Specialised to be great on my long, narrow head

Swanny the strap adjusters look unusual what do you think about them and what size did you go for?

Same problem here. For some reason I find lower end helmets a better fit. My current helmet is the best yet and although it was marketed as a commuter it feels pretty decent. Specialized Centro.

I’m in exactly the same situation as you, rocket. 61cm but quite narrow – a bit like the Alien…

The Catlike Leaf fits my noggin amazingly well – and stood up to a decent crash well, too. I’m now riding in an IXS Trail RS and it fits pretty well. A little space at the sides but much less than the TLD A1 which I tried. I might try a Spesh Ambush this spring and like the look of the Giro Montaro, but I kind of know it won’t fit…

UVEX IAS fit system. It’s only by moving away from them that I realise how good they are.

Same size head here, and Spesh helmets seem to fit fairly well with the cradle adjusting for a decent fit. I’ve got two, can’t remember the models, but the cheaper one feels nicer albeit noticably heavier.

This was always a massive problem in the old days when helmets were polystyrene and just some stick-on foam pads for adjusting the fit. I never had one that really fitted properly.

Haven’t really thought about it, so presumably it’s fine! I tried a medium, which at (I think- can’t actually remember but it was definitely in the medium window) a 59cm bonce should have fitted, but had to trade up for a large. I can get in a spesh medium, but at the top end. I think my old giro was a large. Hope that helps!

    Same problem here.
    Giro works best for me.
Although I have not tried Specialized….

I’ve got a narrow head at that difficult 59cm “inbetweeny” size. Giro used to fit well until they changed their size boundaries and they became either too big or too small. As other have said, Specialized works well for me (use an S3 on the road) and Met Kaos fits OK as my off road lid, although I don’t like the “gel” brow pads as they leave me looking like a Klingon after a long ride.
