Wouldn’t have even noticed his latests grumbles if he hadn’t gone Godwin and upset the interwebz police.
Maybe he knows how to play the modern media game more than he lets on.

I accept that this sort of attitude is unacceptable on here. In my defence, i’m new and in time, will hopefully learn the error of my ways.

    keep on keeping on mate,
for the record, he’s right about a lot of things, at least in greece they recognise its f*&ked, we just hide our head in the sand. look around, we’ve got soup kitchen queues, food banks, double dip recession, business’s collapsing all over…

To be fair, it’s quite easy to become depressed with humanity on a coach trip of that length. Saga holiday does do flights though so he shouldn’t complain too much.

Does seem to rather go against the lyrics of one of his songs, which is one I’m rather fond of,
    as it happens.

Irish blood, English heart, this I’m made of
There is no-one on earth I’m afraid of
And no regime can buy or sell me

I’ve been dreaming of a time when
To be English is not to be baneful
To be standing by the flag not feeling
    Shameful, racist or partial

Irish blood, English heart, this I’m made of
There is no-one on earth I’m afraid of
And I will die with both my hands untied

I’ve been dreaming of a time when
The English are sick to death of Labour
And Tories, and spit upon the name of Oliver Cromwell
And denounce this royal line that still salute him
    And will salute him forever

The bold bit is my emphasis.

Nothing to add to the above, except that I bought some gladioli in the co-op this afternoon.

I was relistening to that album in the car and I was thinking how he was desperately trying to catch the magic of please please let me get what I want…

    and fails.

Hes like a tribute act to morrissey of 20yrs ago.

Well the hook line featuring 1939 Germany, certainly hooked a few, but the message got lost.

Wealth, celebrity and the London centric press. As for patriotism, only those who can afford to be dream the patriotic dream will do so after the games, while the rest slip back into the grim Winter reality of a failing economy. Overall there is nothing to be patriotic about.

I think the world would be a poorer place if it wasn’t for the likes of Morrissey, John Lydon and others of their ilk. Yes they can be insufferable but they make life a bit more interesting than the bland fare served up by Cowell etc

Fantastic lyricist, musician and vocalist … but a bit of a tool on the side, sadly.

Who will ever forget ‘Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me’ – all is, and will be – forgiven.

I think he has a fair point about the gurning royals trying to cash in on the feel good factor same as Cameron desparately chasing around for a gold medal in the first few days. I also cringe everytime the crap tune is played. I also realised i have no idea what the second verse is when they played it at the opening.

How much cash do think the gurning royals made from the feel good factor ?

As far I’m concerned, when he comes back and pays some tax and contributes to the cost of them then he can complain about them; I find him an offensive gobshite

Will etc are in a difficult spot.

Do you think they are definitely rabid ambitious royalists or possibly see why they exist?

Sadly because its better for the UK at the moment.

No, but I might, so tell me anyway.

Or is the truth that you hadn’t thought through what you were actually saying and don’t know the answer?

Ernie- surely they made nothing as the civil list doesn’t pay commission does it?

The royals are utterly reliant on public opinon, hence the need for jubilee extravs or a good wedding or being seen on the telly at the right time just the same as the politicos. They know they are an outdated idea on their last legs and so have to work hard on public opinion.

“cashing in” doesn’t always involve cash.

They know they are an outdated idea on their last legs and so have to work hard on public opinion.

Well I didn’t know that – it’s complete news to me.

This revolutionary fervour amongst the masses to get rid of an outdated idea on its last legs appears to have gone right over my head.

Just one final push and the UK will be declared a republic eh ?

    .

“cashing in” doesn’t always involve cash.

As anagallis_arvensis points out I’m a bit simple and I need that explained to me.

Well what other nations have kept their royals and how much have our royals changed their behaviour and tried to present a different outlook? If they tried to use any power what would happen?

Good change to your point by the way. Bravo, keep it up.

Morrissey is just expressing his *opinion* which he is entitled to, as are others to disagree. I think there is some truth in what he says although I think he overcooks it.

Well pardon me if the fact that the monarchy in Britain was on it’s last legs wasn’t blindingly obvious to me 😐

Yes, you needed to explain that. And I doubt whether I was the only one who needed to hear that explained.

Maybe he just saw the news with the sound off. Watching people waving union jacks, throwing things and getting chased could easilly be mistaken for an old fashion right wing rally…

Quite a good way for the nation to reclaim their flag I think.

This doesn’t bug me. Neither does his opinion. That Skynews report such a pointless thing bugs me a little.

I agree. It’s nice to see the Union Flag being flown without the negative nationalist/fascist connotations it’s unfortunately gained over the years.

As a lyricist Morrissey is one of our very best. He describes the world as he sees it, and has he knows a lot of people see it but are unwilling or unable to say openly. He has human nature and the reality of living described better than any other lyricist I know.
But when it comes to songwriting his output was IMO far better when he worked with Johnny Marr than as a solo artist.
He also has a weakness for saying deliberately provocative things and standing back and watching the inevitable frothing that follows…
I;m always amused by the number of people who go mentally angry at the first mention of Morrissey but when you dig a little you find they don’t actually own an album or have spent any time listening to his songs. They respond to the provocative persona he plays, and completely miss the fact they’re being played with…
We need more artists like Morrissey
