I’m another convert to DE as a direct result of the other thread. Total set up cost was less than £15 (second hand Gilette Tech + blades/soap).

I had to revert to my old Mach3 this morning as I didn’t have time for the DE. The result is complete bobbins by comparison (and I’ve been using modern evolved shaving technology for the last 25 years, so have got the hang of it).

I’ll be throwing the mach3 in the bin when I get home from work.

The long thread was my fault 🙂

Two weeks with the new (3rd hand) razor has cleared up 10 years of razor burn/spots from mach 3 razors and various shaving foams and moisturisers.

No blood baths yet either!

Gilette fusion and a good shaving gel is all you need

serious question – how many days do you generally use a blade for before changing – I stick a new one on every week, but dunno if habit or what ??

Captain Mainwaring – how can the shave be that good if you are still cutting yourself?

The cuts are only tiny nicks on the neck where your skin goes wrinkly (well mine does 🙁 ). Only on the first shave did a couple of knicks bleed after rinsing my face after the shave. Even Mrs M noticed that the shave was closer than before, and I don’t have a strong beard growth

With a fusion I get 3 – 4 shaves
With a mach 3, I get 5 – 7 shaves
With a DE, I get 3 shaves.

So with the DE I need to change the blades more often. However, I prefer the feel of the post-shave results (so does MrsG) and it’s cheaper:

Fusion = £2.12 per blade (£16.99 for 8 from Boots)
Mach3 = £1.43 per blade (£11.46 for 8 from Boots)
DE = £0.16 per blade (£0.81 for 5 from shaving.ie)

Therefore, the fusion will cost me £15 a month, the mach3 £6.13 a month and the DE £1.60 a month – approx.

The price may go up a bit as I try different DE blades, but should still fall short of the Mach3.

I used to use Sensor’s for years, then used splashed out on some new Fusion blades for the razor my brother in law bought me last Xmas. Its very nice but not sure its good enough to keep me off the Sensor’s.

I also use a Phillishave electric for those days where there’s a bit of stubble but don’t have time / can’t be bothered for a proper shave.

I shave in the shower so not bothered about the entire ritual, but do enjoy it when I do.

I have stubble like desperate Dan, I’ve been using the WS £5 black plastic DE razor for a while now with tescos own blades. I get a good close shave, blades last a month each and I hardly ever get cut unless I’ve got a spot.

It’s all in the heat, you have to shave after a bath or shower otherwise it’s always going to be crap.

Now shaving the old nut sac etc is deffo the only job for a modern blade!
