I need to get up to speed pretty sharpish. My dad is ancient, sick and frail, but wants to see out his days in his own home, 90 miles away. Up until last weekend when his doctor banned him from driving after a couple of shocks from his defibrillator. To give him a bit of freedom so he can make it to the shops and doctor under his own steam a scooter will help.

What do I need to know? And spend? A big on-road thing isn’t feasible, but those tiny ones you take in a car boot wouldn’t do either? Any good reliable brands, or to avoid?
Is secondhand worth the risk? Something with good strong baskets for carrying his beer would be good.
