Yeah, erm no not that type 🤦‍♂️

Over the weekend two separate mates said “cor, I had the meat sweats”

I asked both what they meant..

Both said “I ate so much meat I came out in a sweat”

Ok, so I’ve obviously heard about it.. I get a similar “sweaty feeling” when I eat too much cheese..

    But never experienced “meat sweats”

So, is it like a proper thing? Or were they just hanging onto some lingo for lingo’s sake?

I dunno if it’s sweating particularly, but a bloated, uncomfortable feeling.
I believe the phrase originated with Joey from Friends

Too much salt? Processed meats often have massive amounts of salt in them. A doner kebab for instance.

A salty bag of chips may have the same effect. Combine the two and you may trigger sweatageddon as your body works hard to digest it all. Like an engine at full steam.

It may just be your heart shouting ‘stop’. Not really. Yes really. No. Er…

As for feeling bloated after eating a lot…maybe you ate too much?

I think it’s a Christmas thing, you’ve eaten Christmas dinner wearing a jumper indoors and as your heart rate elevates to digest the food you start to feel sweaty and as YGH says, bloated also

Yep definitely a thing, generally when attempting to finish a daft big steak i the US.

Actually my skepticism may just have done a u-turn.

    ‘Protein-induced thermogenesis’

    (‘Meat-sweats’ just sounds less sciencey)

Obviously eating shitloads of food is not good for anyone. I used to eat a kg or more of chilli con carne in one sitting, along with rice and gsrlic bread. Definitely remember the lying down and swearing/sweating afterwards. Blamed the sweats on being over-full and on the capsaicin, rather than the +2 lbs of ground beef and kidney beans…!

My nephew gets cheese sweats – it’s hilarious as he loves cheese 🙂

Used to ride a lot with a Sunday morning group from the next town. Their usual Saturday night activity was to eat a shed load of meat. To put it politely, you could tell by half way up the first climb. Boak.
