  • MATLOCK, Derbyshire – suggest me a 20 Mile MTB route plz.

Afternoon derbyshire dwellers. Mrs Jek wants to visit her friend on Sunday who lives in Matlock and I shall be taking my bike so I won’t have to listen to their chatter before we come together again for sunday lunch out. I’m looking for a half decent XC route mostly off-road if it’s possible, as I’m sick of road riding for about 20 miles. I’d love the route to encorporate some single track, swoopy & fast as f. and I do love to ride through forests so if there’s any woods on way that’d be a winner.
links to whatever website is cool or if you want to be super helpful & write me out directions, that’d be great.
    Thanks all in advance.

5 Dales from Darley Bridge would tick all those boxes.

    In the White Peak guide.
Email me if you want more details.

Was just going to say that route from Darley Bridge. The first climb’s a challenge…

That Darley route is a bit dull in my opinion…..

We did a nice route that started and finished in Winster yesterday. I don’t have a map of the route as a friend put it together, but I can recommend the Peli Deli cafe in the centre of Matlock for excellent coffee and butties!

Peli Deli is ok…..but better value at the cafe in the park…….

+1 for the PeliDeli – excellent looking HasBean coffee and really tasty sandwiches. Very good, enthusiastic staff.

@VickyPea, zipping down the high peak trail from Parsley Hey to the canal is not technical, but great fun.

There are some great old school XC ‘sightseeing’ rides from Matlock & the area. Going out to Winster and back round would be great, even in the rain. Well, except for some of the grassy bits in Darley Dale.

Do you have access to garmin connect? Alternatively

There is woodland above Two Dales north of A6 and B5057 which takes you onto Eastmoor and Beeley Hilltop not entirely sure it is 100% legal. Also Bridleway near Northwood onto moors

@prettygreenparrot- how very dare you suggest that I’d recommend High Peak trail for an MTB ride! We did ride a few miles down the High Peak trail BUT that was just a warm up, we did a total of 24 miles, including climbing up onto the tops, coming back down for lunch in Matlock and climbing all the way back up again. I just can’t remember the actual route.

I don’t want the forum thinking I’m a canal towpaths and flat trails kinda girl 😀

Given half a chance she’s a towpath and leisure trail girl!

@mr pea- given that 90% of my mountain biking is done with you, that would mean you’re a flat trails kinda chap! Shreddin’ the gnarly canal towpaths on your 29-er!

Is this the first ‘domestic’ on the ST forum?

Don’t you come that one Missey!
Who took you to the beast and coaxed you down! It was like talking a plane into land on one of those disaster films!
And who then went home in the car whilst I rode home???

Hey, it was my idea to do the beast, which I managed most of on my hard tail!

Sorry jekkyl, for trashing your thread, It’s time mr pea was in bed!

    She started it!!

    Anyway, that’s an offer I can’t refuse!
