My mate Dave was knocked off his bike this morning while riding to meet us at work. By all accounts bloke lost it in the snow on a bend and cleaned Dave up with the side of the vehicle and knocked him in to a field. He’s very bashed up, multiple fractures, collapsed lung, etc. but stable on a ventilator.

Nothing more to say than keep him in your thoughts and go steady out in the snow + ice.

Sounds bad. As I rode in yesterday I was more scared than I’ve been on my commute for ages. A horrible mix of snow, ice, rain, cold, yet roads strangely busy and the standard of driving at its usual poor level.

Ouch. Wishing Dave a swift recovery

Just thought I’d update this after some good news. Dave came naturally out of his coma over the weekend and was responsive. He’s able to wiggle his toes + fingers (which hopefully mean the spinal fractures will heal) and is aware he was in a accident although can’t talk yet. He has reconstructive surgery on his jaw and face to come but hopefully has turned a corner in his recovery. According to the Dr’s he’s showed remarkable progress so I guess vegans are tough after all!

good news, before reading this I was thinking about the GCN running the vid of a pro rider playing in the snow and ice on an empty road they ran it with the tag line “see you can ride in the snow” I was thinking about commenting on it to the effect “Its other vehicles you have to worry about as well”.

Thanks guys. Maybe underplayed it but obviously don’t want to speak on others behalf, just venting my own concern and worry for my pal.

I’m sure some will know Dave, he lives in Ripon but I will leave it to him to tell the tale when he hopefully is able.
