I am trying to fix a problem on a friends iMac. The Mac Mail program is configured to download email from Lineone.net and receives okay but cannot send.

Email was being received up until Friday when it stopped working for no reason. First off it said that the SMTP server needed authentication but when I re-setup the account it said the sending email account had been rejected.

I can login to webmail but not on the Mac as the Tiscali website is not optimized for Safari and my Outlook on a Vista machine tested okay using exactly the same parameters.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem?

How is your 'smtp' ?
Telnet the outgoing server and talk smtp until you come across an error.

You know HELO etc… ?

I don't know a lot about SMTP but am sure a quick Google will let me know everything 😆
