That is a weird suggestion . I have little doubt that Liz Truss is nowhere as dim as she appears to be. She comes across as particularly dim imo. She is hardly likely to be dimmer than that.

I think the current Tory party just exposes the reality that opportunity, contacts and luck are far more important for success* than hard work and intelligence. IMO this has probably always been the case, it seems to be widely believed that “new media” has created the problem (in politics), I suspect it has exposed it more than it has caused it.

*when the measure of success is wealth and power.

Truss got to PM because she understood how to manipulate the system the tories have for selecting a leader and thus said all the right things to get the support of the membership.  She was always going to win if she could get to the ballot of the members.

It’s a mistake to conflate having a degree with ‘intelligence’, or intelligence with political sophistication eg Kwarteng gained a PhD from Cambridge, Truss got into Merton and Mick Lynch left school at 16.
