I am in the market for a lightweight summer jacket. Something along the lines of my old Sweet Protection Hunter jacket (which no longer fits me).

I had been looking at the Troy Lee shuttle but wondered if that might be too heavy for summer? Just need to be able to pedal at a moderate rate for around 90 mins in it.

Rab Borealis, Rab Vital, or a new one of what you already have?

There may be an *ahem* issue with the manufacturer of my current jacket not making one large enough for my formidable stature.

7Mesh Northwoods is an ace lightweight jacket, great quality, and availabls on sale. Straps to the bike too, although seems a bad idea to me.

Sportpursuit also have Rapha Trail lightweight jacket on sale

I’m not a fan of jackets generally, i find them too hot most of the time, but that one I really like

The Shuttle weighs about the same 180g as your current one. Much lighter than that and you get into super fragile territory IME.

How are you needing a jacket to pedal for 90 minutes in summer, especially as a gentleman of formidable stature? We’re all different I suppose, I would be too hot riding an eMTB in the flat in a jacket in summer.

Also take a look at gilets/vests if you haven’t already, e.g. Fox Ranger wind vest. Keeps the wind chill off your core, easy to regulate temperature with zip, and can be very light as the lack of arms means it’s unlikely to catch on anything.

I’ve been wearing a endura mt500, which I never wore as it was too hot………..until I converted it in to a short-sleeved jacket and I can now vent through my arms as well as all the vents :).  As a spring/summer/autumn jacket it is great when it is warm and wet

The Rapha Lightweight Trail jacket is excellent. Very light and breathable. Perfect for dry or showery conditions just a touch chilly for a jersey.

I have an Endura MT500 too but that’s just for deepest winter. Far too warm and not breathable enough 90% of the time.

I’ve the original Northwood jacket with no hood and it is still my go too jacket even after ~ 10 years and many repairs.

After trying on all the lightweight jackets in the Rapha shop, their commuter jacket felt the best cut and lightweight design IMO.

Also I’ve had a Rab lightweight hoody for years too, which is great for hill walking and no bad on the the bike, the Borealis seems to be modern jacket version of it.

For summer I prefer a gilet if I need a bit of warmth – I’ve got an Aussie Grit one which is great. For more weatherproofing but loads less breathability I’ve got an Alpkit Arro jacket – packs down tiny.

Very grateful to all who responded. That has helped enormously in narrowing down the choices.
