    I think it means ‘he was needed every day’ (and I think it’s quotidie), but I could be wrong.

    quotidie would be more correct yes.

    “Requiro” would also be “needed” rather than missed

    How about a bit of Pliny? “Plenus annis abiit, plenus honoribus” – “He has left us, full of years, but full of honours!”
