If a kmc x10 chain (somehow) brakes, and a link needs to be replaced, what is the best way to fix the chain ?

    1. Use a chain press and push pins out, leaving them in the outer plate, replace the link in between and push the pins back in.

    2. Do the same but use replacement pins.  (Actually is there such thing for kmc x10 chains ?)

    3. Use a master link

As far as I know doing #1 or #2 would make a weak spot in the chain, since the pins lose the peening/ mushrooming/ whatever it’s called and are not secured in the plates anymore. Also the outer plate holes for the pin could also get a little bigger, right ?

Since the x10 comes with a master link, doing #3 will result in two master links in the chain, would this be a problem ?

I would use a master link. It’s what it’s designed for, and I can’t think of any reason why two would be any more problem than one.

I’ve had seven masterlinks in a chain at one point, it’s fine/
