  • Kindle Paperwhite – experiences using in the dark?

My old gen 1 kindle bit the dust at last and I’m interested in a paperwhite – mainly because I read after Mrs DB is asleep so tend to be reading in the pitch dark. Previously had to use old kindle and my phone – using phone to light up kindle – complete guddle.

Concern is that the paperwhite lighting can’t be turned down enough to use in the complete darkness – I don’t want snowblindness staring at a blazing white page! I want it to be light enough to read but dim enough so my retinas stay intact.

Any experiences of using in the complete dark?

Yep, I have no probs reading it with the lights off.

That’s how I use it myself, most of the time.

Tend to turn it right down at night, it’s fine.
    Very impressed, tbh.

It’s ace. Goes really quite dark. I’m used to reading on smartphones and the like and it’s much dimmer than the usual phone screen, lovely for reading on after lights out.

Perfecto – thanks for the feedback – sounds like it is exactly what I’m looking for.

    Amazon here I come.
