Kids full face helmets

My lad has just turned 4. He’s a very confident rider on his balance bike (less so on his first pedal bike but he’s getting there). One of his favourite things is riding his balance bike at the skate park, but this week he had a nasty off involving face planting into concrete the night before his birthday party (his mum was thrilled!). His confidence hasn’t been knocked too much but it’s been agreed by all that he needs a full face helmet for skate/bike parks from now on, keeping his regular lid for trail riding.

Can anyone recommend a decent one that doesn’t cost an absolute fortune? (No doubt he’ll outgrow it pretty quick) Thanks!

My 4 year olds got this one. You can take the bottom half off and use as a regular helmet too.

My son is older – 11 now – and was keen on getting one, more for the rad look I suspect, but it does give him more confidence too. We got a 7iDP one.

My daughter is 6 and is quite small for her age, we got the IXS Trigger full face with Mips. The size range is excellent 49-54cm so basically will continue to fit until she reaches youth / adult sizes. Got a bargain at £75 from eBay but seems the seller has sold out.

Another option that had a wide size range was the Fox proframe youth but the price difference killed that idea, also the level of protection is not on par with heavy weight full face helmets.

My daughter is on her 2nd Bell Sanction since being 5 years old. Go down to a XS size. Can be found pretty cheaply, no frills and light weight (Medium weighs 850g).

IXS +1. It’s seriously light which means less additional force when they are bouncing around….

Heads don’t grow as fast as everything else so it should last a while.

7dip here for my daughter, but I’d prefer the lighter ixs a mates daughter picked up in the wiggle fire sale for buttons.

+1 for The ixs trigger in xs if you get the chance. Kids necks don’t need the extra weight of Full on dh lid, and they’re unlikely to be carrying the speed and momentum to warrant it.
It’s also one of the only adjustable ones so sizing is a bit more flexible. There’s a lot of paying big boxes if you need to try and return internet orders.

That said, another option is the phoenix Lazer plus. Because you can usually walk into Halfords and try for size before you buy. My 11yo daughter’s in her second one of those, a small which she’s had a couple of years – before that an xs for 2 years.
Boy had a 661 and was v happy.

My 11 year old is on an Endura one, can’t remember which model.

I discounted ‘proper’ DH ones for the weight reasons above, and also the ventilation – I didn’t want him to be put off riding by the horrible sweaty-ness that riding a full on FF can cause on an xc trail.

Bought for my son from the CRC closing down sale, was too small for him and I never got round to returning it.
