  • Is Gore the rich man's Endura ?

I have been an Endura fan for many years, the style and concept is right there, sometimes the build quality is a bit off, but the warranty is good.

However in the last year I have picked up a few Gore items – contest bib 3/4’s, an Alp X thermo jersey, one of those string vest style base layers, and last week some retro roady gloves. I simply cannot fault any of these items in any way except the price…

Gore is massively better than Endura. Pretty much all my Endura kit I own has fallen apart or failed in some way.

If you wait for the sales you can pick up Gore stuff for good prices – I got a couple of Gore jerseys in the Summer for less than 1/2 price.

I have a gore cross jacket – it’s awesome! ( I think the new model is now called the path 11)

Endura has always been cheap and nasty; even their socks were rubbish, how hard can it be to make a reasonable pair of socks?

Gore, on the other hand have always been quality stuff; I’ve got some Gore bike gloves that I used in the 3 peaks 17 years ago, and I still dig them out for muddy rides today.

It’s kinda weird but I think some people have really bad experiences with Endura, and some really good. I find their products really nice, long lasting and cheap, proper decent kit. Gore I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole (knowing the trade price of it…) at the retail price.

But yeah, for me, cant fault Endura. But others loathe it.

I’ve had some Gore kit going for best part of 15 years. Don’t think anything has fallen apart yet. Could not say that of any other manufacturer be it Endura or Assos. Always get it in the sale though.

yup gore is quality stuff, endura should be good but is pretty poor in terms of longevity!

Ive had my Gore wind stopper about 4 years now, so thats cost me £26.25 a year and reducing so far. Bit of a bargain if you ask me and it’s still in great condistion.

used to have gore stuff but it gradually fell apart over the years.

I replaced the worn out gear with gore which has been excellent and so far going great.

Same experience as others with Endura – decent performance but poor longevity. Great warranty though. Also good designs – their stuff is comfortable IME.

I have to agree with all of the above comments other the the ‘trade’ versus ‘retail’ price. I’m lucky enough to ride for the team of my local bike shop and receive trade terms, if not better, on all my purchases. I’ve seen no difference between Gore and Endura in that respect, however, the difference in quality, performance and durability does differ. I now simply don’t buy Endura product, even at ‘trade’.

hah, seems I am not alone ! I reckon as my Endura stuff wears out it will be gradually replaced by Gore. I do love my Stealth Jacket and Singletrack shorts though !

Not had any problems with my Endura stuff (fated that now 🙂 ) had a Convert II for 2 years used almost daily for commute and offroad duties, and pair of Hummer shorts that have been fine considering the abuse they’ve had, got a Stealth jacket now and fully expect the same. Myabe ive been lucky

Gore is about the best out there for fit, quality and longevity. Endura is good, but not in the same league.

Buy both, although I like Gore you’d be hard pressed to beat the Endura Stealth gear, at any price.

Endura Mt500 shorts are great but for everything else i use Gore.

I see this a lot now about Endura, seems a bit sad i used to love the products (still do) but admittedly have not bought any new ones for years.
The kit that i have now i’ve had for years, some over 10, without a major failure yet. I’ve got:

3/4 biblongs 3 pairs were them all, had all one pair for 12 years.
MT 500 shorts (original ones)Indestructible, despite sliding down the road in them on a road ride gone wrong.
Stealth Jacket – No falling to bits there.
Gillet – Cheap and as good as any other i’ve had.
    Gillet Jacket
Single track shorts (tightening buckles fell of both)
Various tops and t’s (not great quality feel, but cheap)

Oh, the socks were crap, went all bobbly.

In all i would say the kit use versus spend the have been fantastic.

What products have you guys had from Endura that has fallen to bits?

My Gore clothing just doesn’t wear out and some has seen use into double figures! Yes, it’s very expensive but Goretex keeps me dry and Windstopper ensures I don’t get windchill anywhere.

Definitely worth keeping your eyes peeled for bargains, eg Amazon, tgstore etc.

Actually, why can’t I be a sponsored Gore Bike Wear rider? 🙂

    Random, interesting post.

What is rich and what is poor?

A CEO is fiscally rich but time poor. A job seeker is time rich but fiscally poor. Who’s fooling who…

    What does that make Assos?

Assos has gone downhill in a lot of areas IMO, too much is form over function. I’d say the exact opposite of most Gore stuff. Saying that I did buy some Assos tights last year and they’re just superb, never found another brand who come close, last forever, fit well and lovely and warm.

I think Endura stuff is fairly crap, and rate Gore highly!

these got tested against the gore phantom in recent years although the phantom isn’t waterproof – stealth claims to be.
got the gore phantom & do like it but wouldn’t stand up to consistent rain

Make a point of not buying Endura anymore. I hate this talk of ‘good after sales service’ – I’d rather it just not go wrong! Last item I returned they didn’t even repair all the holes! “Oh, just send it back”. I don’t think so, not again.

Again Gores stuff yes, but in the sale.

endura are good for the price but details like only one popper on the shorts brings them down a bit(i have a bit of a gut) and the crap belts/buckles they have too.
only one purchase but my gore gloves where only matched by specialised for falling apart and general crapness and cost a lot more.

gore fan boy here. Not rich , just willing to pay for quality.
The power III shorts are super comfy.
Pac lite jacket on its 6th year , gillet up to 10!
The windproof/alpx gloves are the best i’ve had in the cold.

Looking for a gore windproof jersey if anyone has any recommendations please

I just picked up a short sleeve one in the sale – look on Evans webpage.
    Perfect with gore arm warmers.

although the phantom isn’t waterproof – stealth claims to be.

I’ve both and tbh they are two totally different products – and the Stealth is totally waterproof and fit for well below zero as well. The Phantom I wore earlier this week on a dry night ride.

Gore kit is much better quality than endura. I like the look of a lot of endura kit but the quality, particularly the zips, leaves a lot to be desired. If they used zips that worked properly, that didn’t break and zipped up easily then their products would improve a lot for me. It can’t be that difficult.

Can anyone tell me what Gore’s equivalent of Endura’s stealth jacket is please?

The gore fusion. I bought one a couple of years ago and its a stunningly good winter cycling jacket.

Love my Endura Humvees, but the poppers the use on the waist are totally crap. That aside they are very comfy.
Agreed on Gore stuff though. Quality wise its in a different league.

For some 50% off Gore bargains check out Royles.biz they got tool jackets for 63 quid and others half price.

I’ve got a Gore Alp X jacket and some thermal bib longs. Both fantastic.

However, I’ve also got a load of Aldi and Decathlon stuff, which just keeps working and refuses to wear out.

I won’t buy Endura because everyone I know who has complains about the quality.
