just got new phone and am playing with the settings.

The ringtone setting is set to standard (bad choice of songs), how do I change to one from my playlist?

Have a look at you tube, there are how to guides. it’s a bit convoluted (you have to save the song as a 30 second recording and change it’s file name or something, haven’t done it in ages) but even I managed to do it.

    Choose song on iTunes.
Right click – get info – options – change start & finish time for 40 second segment.
    Click Ok.
Right click – create aac version.
Go to my music buff folder file.
    Find the copied file.
Save it in a “ringtones” new folder file.
Change the file extension from m4a to m4r. (look google for how to view file extension)
Go to iTunes and import that file to ringtone section.
Remember to change the original song back to normal start & stop time.
Sounds complicated, but it’s ok, some good explanations on google too.

Show or hide file name extensions

A file name extension is a set of characters added to the end of a file name that determine which program should open it. Follow these steps to choose whether Windows displays these file extensions.

Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.

Click the View tab, and then, under Advanced settings, do one of the following:

To hide file extensions, select the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.

To display file extensions, clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.

OK cheers done but now the problem is 2 things,

    1 – how do I make a “ringtone” folder.

2 – set up the folder and set as ringtone.

    cheers (again)

Just add a new folder (right click – new folder)
Put it somewhere, doesn’t matter where.
Cut & paste the newly made m4r file & any other m4r files into it.
    Go to iTunes.
File – import file – choose the m4r files then hit ok.
It should then be in the ringtones section on the left bar of iTunes.
Then when your phone is plugged in, hit the iPhone logo, on left bar.
Along the top , summary, photos, apps podcasts etc hit ringtones & tell it to select all ringtones.
    Think that should work.
