And how many bands do you know who design their own sleeves?

I know a great many solo artists have and do design their own artwork, however, bands tend to have their artwork done by agencies. Look at Floyd, Zeppelin, Joy Division, 4AD artists

Re-using design motifs from other things, particularly retro ones – happens all the time. See Andy Warhol.

Warhol didn’t present Campbell’s soup tins as his own work – the whole point was that it was an incongruous appropriation.
