looking for some new shorts, knee length if possible.

i dont want baggies ( got loads ) and i dont want lycra because that would be a crime on humanity,

so long not baggy shorts suitable for long rides and long pub visits after.

    all ideas welcome.

Joking aside, there’s a few version of ‘gravel shorts’ around, which tend to be closer fitting than baggies, but still intended for riding without a skin-tight Lycra fit.

I always understood baggies to mean anything that was not skintight. There’s very little left if your shorts must be skintight but not lycra.

I reckon this is when there’s no alternative to going into a shop to try them on. Even “baggies” come in various shapes so website descriptions tend to be pretty useless. The Gravel shorts idea is a good one though.

I’ve had a pair of Gore Explore for a few years, they’re very good. Pricey at full retail but can be found discounted. I wear them on the gravel bike and mtb.

I’ve found these perfect, but I got them in medium at this price and seems might only be XL now.

Light, big pockets, loose enough for over lycra or often where them just over normal undies.

Haven’t really walked in them but they’re comfortable on and off the bike.

(Admittedly look quite snug in that photo, but think that’s the angle

Decathlon’s excellent shorts with a weird removable (tobacco?) pouch

Not too baggy, not too tight, Goldilocks shorts

Decathlon is the answer (but those shorts up there are not!)…try these: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/men’s-climbing-stretch-cotton-3-4-trousers-vertika-grey/

Not as baggie on me as they look in the photos, nice and stretchy for pedalling and really comfy in the pub.

Ground Effect do some nice not-baggy shorts. I have some Slim Jims for touring and commuting

Mountain Equipment Approach shorts (if you don’t want padding; I don’t). Better for cycling than the Rab equivalent which, on me at least, ride upwards but don’t drop down again. The Daisy Duke look doesn’t suit me.

As mentioned above, anything not skintight is by definition baggy in cycling terms.

Are you actually asking for suggestions of less baggy, baggy shorts?

    Stolen Goat gravel shorts ordered.

if they are good enough for Rocketdog they are good enough for me.
