It’s defiantly some poor photo shop as mentioned the shadow looks burnt / coloured into the ground and the thing standing up has a different res than the surrounding

Yeah it looks like an HDR merge done badly. Hence the unusual appearance of the sky and haloes around the light – dark transitions.

But to dwell on the minutiae of the photoshop is to miss the point. I mean, just LOOK at it.

I think you all need to have a look at bikes that people ride for the Tour Divide and similar rides – these aren’t for a quick 10 mile and then to the pub….anyway….

The one photograph is what people are commenting on. The man appears to be a bit of a legend in the long distance riding stakes but it doesn’t take away from the fact that the photo is spellbinding in it’s oddness.

See, a photo like that should appear in one of two ways…instantly, with the Old Spice orchestra, or gradually de-pixellating with a harp accompaniment.

Either way, you look a fit chap Op, so respect.

Not sure about Robs tights – but he insists they are part of his equipment – which is all to obvious.
Robs unusual looking bike is set-up for long distance off road riding -http://tourdivide.org/ which Rob completed in 2011.
Robs passion for endurance riding will be fed in his attempt on the South Downs Way this month – not that far you say… watch this space!

I was watching a few henduro hedits last night and almost all the riders looked the part with their aesthetically approved bikes and on trend riding kit with mucho colour co-ordination. Was a pity most of them couldn’t ride for shit. Keep on keeping on OP (and great pic – if a little creepy).

    Perfectly put.

I’m not sure that the bike and outfit combo is any stranger than this one:

Definitely cooler than all these enduro clowns wearing multicoloured pyjamas, ski goggles, Tupperware on their elbows and knees and pumping/bumping/bopping/fisting each other at the bottom of every red route.

Good on ya mate. That’s a fair bit of bike riding you’re doing!

It’s funny how a bit of lycra and some different shaped bars can get the STW massive’s panties in a bunch! Especially funny since every second post here is about road bikes.

LOL, how the tone has changed now we know he’s actually a better rider than the vast majority of us!

That chip must weigh a fair bit.

South Downs Way double double is flippin insane. I know the “no hills in the south” lot will think it’s basically no harder than the Tuesday whippet club ride but anyone who’s tackled the SDW will forgive even bibs as outer wear and a bar-end/TT bar combo. (The stance however, unforgivable.)

I make that 400 miles and 40,000 vertical feet in one go. 😯

    Chapeau.

this is a man who is about to attempt the south downs way double double

Going by the shirt he’s done the Trans Rockies too..

Still, self awareness and all that. No way I’d put a photo of myself up, lycra or no.

If the guys doing the SDW Double then Yay ! However you don’t need TT bars for that, sorry.

If the guys doing the SDW Double

He’s doing the double double – ie riding the length of it four times.

He can ride what he likes, imo, but the bib shorts over jersey thing is getting a bit bikerfox 😉

harsh crowd tonight .. he’s out there and we’re not. Is that an hdr shot?

After all its not a fashion parade, whatever helps you get from A to B in the fastest most enjoyable way!

I’d prefer the picture with just the scenery myself.

Jesus, what’s with the people telling other riders what they do and don’t need, should and shouldn’t wear etc. I always thought stw was a socialist place, but I see its full of fascists.

I don’t think any one was being nasty, I wasn’t anyway. The op knew what he was doing posting that pic and titling the thread the way he has, it all seemed like a joke to me so people went along with it, just a bit of light hearted banter.

Good on him for doing what he does, I couldn’t do it. But that’s not why I ride bikes any way so it really doesn’t mean that much to me, I can’t really comprehend riding that far in a day. I can big him up though if thats why he posted, I don’t think it is though.

How fast do you have to be going to get an advantage from aero bars? Or are they just for a change of position?
Was thinking just the other day about one of the people I looked up to when I was starting to get into MTB – John Stamstad who used to win the Iditabike every year.
