Don’t put sweaty stuff in the washing basket, put it straight in the machine. Letting it sit foisting allows the shtank to get hold!

Sometimes air drying in the sunshine can help.

There comes a point with my gear that I just put it through a 60c wash. If it smells that bad I don’t want to use it then it’s worth the risk. Only do it occasionally though.

Dettol or generic pine disinfectant like gets used to clean school floors…very distinctive odour that goes away once the garment is dry.

If you have a bunch of this stuff every week, maybe consider a nappy bin attangement ie a bucket with lid containing weak bleach solution. The dirty stuff sits in the bin until you wash the whole lot.

The problem with conventional laundry methods is that the wash cycle is not long enough to permit the detergent to complete its task (infiltrating the clothes fibres and expelling the dirt).

So I put my clothes in the wash cycle with detergent for half an hour, drain the machine, and wait 24 hours before washing at standard cycle.

the regular wash cycle will then, basically be rinsing the clothes clean.
