I nearly missed that as I skim-read. Lovely, lunatic choice 😀

    4 speed mk1 gti
    Astra GTE
    Ax gt
440 (phase 2, the greatest car ever made)
Hire/co cars since. Dull, but better on the wallet.

In order over the last 10 years.

    I’m on my 3rd.

Got my 1st car in 1994, so in 19 years I’ve had
‘D’ Mk4 Ford Escort 1.3 Pop (Rusted into oblivion) 1994-1995
‘E’ Mk4 Ford Escort 1.4 LX (caught fire on bonfire night) 1995-1999
‘N’ Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7 LS TD (died of old age) 1999 – 2008
‘L’ Ford Mondeo 1.8 TD (bought for £200 and used for Crumball Rally) 2007
    ‘Y’ Mercedes E320 CDI Avantgarde Estate (got rid because I couldn’t afford repair bills) 2008 – 2011
    ’02’ Audi A6 Avant 2.5 TDI Quattro Sport 2011 – Present

So discounting the Mondog project, 5 in 19 years.

    Since passing test around 1993
Ford porno 83? Y reg I think. (Fiesta but everyone called it ‘porno’)
    VW Golf 1.3.
    Peugeot 106 1.5 d.

    Seat Ibiza 1.9tdi (current,bought 12 years ago)
    Peugeot 106 gti

And the use of company cars for about two years back in 2001-2003. Seems to be a bit of a trend with the types of car though! Passed test in 1997 so they’re over 16 years.

    In the order purchased….

Land Rover SIII SWB 2.25 diesel
    Astra Van Mk2 1.3 (stolen 🙁 )
Escort Mk5 1.3 (worst car purchase I’ve ever made)
Astra estate Mk3 1.4 (longest car owned ~7yrs and 120k miles)

    Yamaha Serrow 225
    Peugeot 106 1.1
Polaris Scrambler 500 (still have this)

There was quite a bit of overlap, mainly with 1 or two landovers plus a car and now camper van, car and quad bike. Missus’ cars not counted.

About 27 years of car ownership…

    Mini 1275GT
Fiesta 1300 (This fell apart and I didn’t have a car for a year or so)
Cavalier (brilliant car, did over 210k and never went wrong)
    Hyundai Coupe
A3 (my wife has this now)
    Honda Accord

I’m not including a number of motorbikes or cars my wife has owned.

edit: reading this actually makes me a little sad. I’ve never owned a daft car not because I couldn’t afford one but because I’ve played it safe. My next car (and this is considering that I rarely drive a car nowadays – I go most places by bike), needs to be extremely silly. Recommendations would be useful 😉

    3 in 3 years of driving…

Renault Clio 1.2 2003 reg – crashed it but sold it as spares and repairs for 80% what I paid…
Ford Fovus 1.6 2003 reg – sold at 115K miles
Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 2005 reg – current, decent car tbh but I’d like an estate I think…

Between 1989 and 1995 I also had two further Alfa 1600 Juniors as second vehicles, one 1973, the other 1976

Best car? At the time the de-badged Jetta 16v was a fantastic Q car- no body realised what it was
The Alfas were lovely dainty things if a bit high maintenance
The Citroen BX 16v was very quick and had the best brakes of any car I have owned but so unreliable- only car I had to trailer home after breaking down on the way from picking up from previous owner.
My current Audi is the car I have kept the longest- it has the best blend of comfort, pace and economy
