…..do you (and your partner) own?

    Opened or unopened?

    Mrs has 8.
I’ve bought her another one she likes but hasn’t got.
    Too many?
    Hmmmm

I’ve got four on the go, btw.

You should never have more than two open at a time. It goes off.
Even unopened bottles have a shelf life of 3/5 years from manufacture.
I know this because I was talking to the formulation team as one of the largest manufacturers in the world last week at a Christmas party.

I tend to use the whole can before I start another…Like the not tested in animals stuff….

How can it go off by opening? That cellophane around a cardboard box doesn’t keep it fresh surely. Surely it’s more of a use by date?
Eau de parfum maybe but can’t see way de toilette in an atomiser being affected?

    🙂
    I hadn’t thought of that.
    I’ll get her a gallon or two….

Just had a quick look and a few are nearly empty.
    I think I’m safe.

Mrsmidlife has two, used regularly so she gets through it, so that’s one for birthday and one for chrimbo. I have one I’m about halfway through, bought it about about 1992 so should last me until 2042 at this rate.

Think I’ve got 3 or 4. I need to start wearing more often or it goes to waste.

Feels odd putting on to go to work when I wear overalls and work in a fairly grimy environment.

    One. And it’s hers.

FWIW I don’t work, ride or socialise with any guys who wear scent. That’s not an embargo, just an observation.

    Never?
Not even a splash of Brut as an impetuous teenager?
Not one bottle of Old Spice as a prezzie?

That’s you sorted for the Mods Secret Santa next year then….

    Usually about three.

    Correctly,
    Bleu de Chanel
Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin
    Eau Sauvage, Dior

Never heard of Eau de Sausage, have to try that.

Quite like a bit of the Paul Smith Men.
    Dunhill too.

Have some Hugo Boss Orange I received as a present which is growing on me and some Blue Water which stays in the washbag.

Had all sorts as presents over the years including David Beckham and 007 Bond in a grenade shaped bottle last year from some younger relatives.
    🙂
The Bond was surprisingly ok for work!
The Beckham aftershave I’ve not really tried, tbh.
    😀

3 or 4 on the go at any one time, wear the, according to the seasons, some scents are definitely not something to wear in the summer, Tom Ford Black Orchid for example is very much a winter one, in the summer I wear vetiver and Terre d Hermes as an inbetween one.

Stopped wearing it decades ago. My nose doesn’t appreciate others wearing perfume. 😐

I’m guessing a can of Lynx Africa and the roll-on version for airport security doesn’t count for much in this particular competition? 😀

It’s not a competition, more of a panicked mindfart when I thought I might have to return something to Boots.
    Today.

D’you not get bought pong at Christmas?

    And everyone loves Lynx Africa.

I found opened bottles of both Kouros and Drakar Noir in my parent’s loft last week, neither had deteriorated in any way.

They both still smelled of cat guff

A typical perfume has around 50-60 ingredients, a handful of which oxidise readily. In the factory warehouse they are kept blanketed under nitrogen to prevent oxidation. As you use the perfume the increased air space allows more and more oxidation of those few materials until the perfume turns orange and smells resinous.

Some perfumes oxidise faster than others depending on the ingredients.

You can slow down the oxidation by keeping your expensive perfume in the fridge, it will be good for ten years if you’re lucky

Nah, bikey/outdoor stuff preferred. Am not lacking in self awareness either and do realise I’m different to most women. 😆
