So I’m after a nice 29plus wheelset for bikepacking and general malarkey.

Needs to be tough, reasonably light, tubeless and with quiet hubs.

Dont have a preference or aversion to carbon rims.

Ideally I’d like to run 29×3” tyres

They are for a Salsa Beargrease so will need a 150mm front and a 170mm rear.

What does the hive ride, like or want?

Chris King for the hubs.  Never had them but always wanted them!

    What’s the budget?

As you want to use the wheelset for bikepacking I would highly recommend against carbon rims as the last thing you want is a wheel failure out in the sticks.

Onyx racing. Reliable, quiet, but not light (or cheap).

Popular with bike packers I believe.

They dont do 150/170mm axles. Nor are they quiet!

DT Swiss all the way, 240 / 350 hubs, a rim width to suit, Comp DB J bend spokes & nipples, all in black.

I was totally underwhelmed by my King hubs, wouldn’t have another set. Definitely another vote for DT240s. They do get noisy if the star ratchets dry, but a thin smear of grease keeps them lovely and quiet.

If you are OK with carbon rims, contact Stuart at Blue Flow.I have been really pleased with mine over the past 3 years.

Another vote for the dt swiss hubs. I have a 240s on my hardtail and a 350 for the fat bike.

I’ve still got a set of 240’s they were faultless in regular use.

Go the whole hog and spec a SON 28 front hub.

    Nextie rims.

    Take a look at traversbikes.com
