    And what happened?

Currently waiting for Asda to dig out the CCTV of when their van driver decided he didn’t like the fact that I was not prepared to block a roundabout by driving onto it when my exit was blocked. He articulated his displeasure by beeping, and then, when nothing changed, running into the back of me. Not fast or anything but enough for my jaw to drop in ‘WTF??’ and get out (engine off, keys out) to look at the back of my van.

Took a picture of Asda van lodged on bumper, picture of registration, listened to said van driver telling me I should be driving into fully backed-up queue (blocking roundabout) because otherwise ‘I’d never get out’ and got back into van. Drove off once there was space (not that long even!) and realised I was completely shaking. Terrified to realise that he was still behind me in the incredibly slow queue of traffic. I haven’t often felt threatened but I was a proper mess by the time I pulled off the road.

Asda’s investigating and the police who say ‘the driver is saying that that is not what happened’. Slightly curious as to whether this has happened to anyone else and what the alternative version could possibly be. Are the van CCTV cameras any good? Has anyone else been in this position?

wife was forced off the road – hit a kerb at 30 mph – bad back for years after. Bloke said he wasn’t there and got away with it. PC who came to investigate said it wasn’t the first time he’d done it, nor got away with it.

MIB paid for the car as it’s classed as malicious damage.

Years ago when I lived in London I was stopped at a T-junction for a right turn that always took flipping ages at rush hour. You just had to sit and wait for gaps in both directions before you could go, I was used to it so just sat there and waited as usual. Unfortunately the white van man behind me wasn’t so patient. He decided he’d had enough of my unacceptable lack of initiative after a minute or so, and shunted me forward into the oncoming 20-30mph traffic. It wasn’t particularly violent, but a teeny tiny Ford Ka doesn’t stand much chance against a big old van, and I was inexorably shoved into and half-way across the first lane in short order, even with the brakes on. Fortunately the oncoming cars all stopped, and I was able to drive out of the way, before pulling over to gather my thoughts. The stupid shit in the van made off into the distance before I could get the plate. I hope he died young of something really embarrassing.

It’s really horrible when people pull stuff like that. Well done for standing up to him. Don’t let ASDA back down, make sure they give him a kicking, drivers like that kill people. Good luck.

I’ve been rammed by stolen cars on more than one occasion. The first time it happened the car I was in ended up on it’s side. I’ve also been the rammer on more than one occasion 🙂 (being passenger in that situation is horrible)

Hope you get it sorted. Is it the same unlucky van from the other weeks eventful MNPR?

Yes it is! Poor van… can’t really tell whether there are additional scuffs (and it was slow even though deliberate) but the ABS brake warning keeps coming on. Grrr.

Best of luck, I hope the said ASDA driver develops and retains itchy piles and stingy wee for a period not less than 8 weeks.

Someone tried the ‘late break up the inside at a roundabout’ to ‘overtake on the island’ to ‘force other car onto the verge on the exit’.
Happily I was taking my car to the scrap yard at the time and he looked mightily confused as he bounced off the side of it when I did’nt move.I suggested he should FO and get his mirror/door fixed before the police got involved.
Someone else tried the same thing but at a much slower speed (deliberately taking the wrong lane to avoid the queue and then cut in at the exit).I wound down the window and explained that in knock for knock the repair on his Aston Martin convertible would be more than the total value of my 15 year old 308.

Bloody hell B, that sounds terrible! Hope you’re ok!

I had an experience with the much maligned white van man. I was on my bike, moved out to the centre of the road indicating to turn right, bell end in a white van, parked just before the junction pulls off the kerb without indicating and floors it into the space i’m About to turn into. I try to avoid him, but too little time, go down like a sack of spuds, locking up both wheels trying not to bail straight into the front of him. He was illegally parked about 5ft off a junction, could see I was about to turn into that junction, and floored it without indicating, all the time while looking right at me!

He slams on so as not to run me over (cheers mate!) then mounts the pavement and drives rounds me and my bike, and screeches off

    ****!

yep had that at the inverurie round about heading north .

bmw managed to drive under my landrover with his bonnet.

the exchange was along the lines of expletive expletive expletive – that looks like expensive paint , you could have at least indicated with your intentions before parking under my car. i wonder how the police will look at the fact you have clearly driven under my car from the side – he was inside my wheel base. what exactly he thought was going to happen and quite why he picked a ratty old land rover to mess with ill never know.

but as above – i have dashcams in all our cars now. too many asshats on the road.

Rorschach it’s liberating driving a car that’s worth £250 (on a good day) isn’t it? My lovely old rot-box all ready has battle scars from 18 years hard life to complete the “I don’t give a crap, knock yourself out mate” look.

Yeah. I was rammed while stopped in little bike box by a pensioner who’d taken exception to me overtaking him. He’d made me aware of this with beeping and a punishment pass already. As I dismounted the bicycle (which was lodged under his bumper) to have words not one but two unmarked psni cars blew up their sirens, presumably to prevent a murder. He cried ignorance, said he couldn’t see me until I explained the prior incidents. He got away with a caution though as I was late for work and couldn’t be arsed.

Had someone in a Lexus bully their way under my Hilux, much to my amusement. When I ignored him shouted something to the effect of (don’t you know the *** who I am?) to more amusement. In my rear view I saw him pull into a plastic surgery clinic so I did a u-turn and drove into the clinic car park…much to his surprise. I didn’t get to find out who he was though as he basically ran into the clinic when he saw me pull up 😈

Sounds like I’ve been lucky, never had anything like that. However, in your case Clover, it sounds like it’s going to be a pretty cut an dried incident. If you were stopped at a roundabout and be hit the back of you, He may be able to avoid the charge that he did it on purpose, but he’ll not be able to avoid liability for the accident.

I was once the rammer and the rammee. Think hollywood car chase sort of thing. Long story, will tell it next time I’ve had a few pints 🙂

I know the feeling though. That horrible adrenaline rush which once it’s all over you’re still buzzing and feel sick. Vehicles and traffic do funny things to people.

I’ve not been driven into, but I’ve noticed more drivers barging their way through when they don’t have right of way, and oncoming cars driving at speed in the middle of the road on narrow lanes, forcing me into the hedge. It’s always vans or big flashy cars that would mash my fiesta if I didn’t get out of their way.

I was at a red light on my bike when a builders crew bus ran into my back wheel and pushed me forward 3ft. About 2 miles before he had done a punishment pass on me. I think he got angry when he realised I’d taken a cycle path short cut when he got caught in traffic.
I turned a round and there was no eye contact from any of the guys in the vehicle.
So I did what anyone would do. I emailed his boss.
He was taken off work with no pay for a week and had to do a driving awareness course thing at his own expense or leave the job.
Moral: If you are going to be an idiot, don’t do it in a vehicle with your boss’s name on it. He may be a keen cyclist with a young family who all ride bikes.

Well, looking at that little lot, I got off pretty lightly.

Still don’t get why a driver in a marked van who drives for his living would deliberately do that.

At home we have a nasty two lane very short dual carriageway leading to a small roundabout with a left turn/straight left lane and a right turn lane only.. you know where I’m going with this don’t you.

Plenty of dicks use the right lane only to go straight and push in when exiting the roundabout.. but the comical tales are those dicks that pull alongside and edge and creep forward stopping the traffic coming around the roundabout to exit.. then flooring it around the sharp radius of the roundabout and try to go straight.. to either get in or be confronted by a queue of cars (because there’s a set of pedestrian crossing lights about 200mtrs up the road)

Yes I’ve been hassled by these dicks, but I’ve learned over the years to make your car really wide by driving in the middle of the roundabout thereby preventing these dicks squeezing in.. I learned this about 13yrs ago having been squeezed at the straight exit and having my front wing bashed by a dick in a Audi Estate… as I flashed him he tried to speed up and then attempted an overtake along a very busy road and as he did so he overtook a grandad in a micra and took his wing mirror off, and squeezed between oncoming traffic into a plain stealth police car taking his wing mirror off too…(we have a motorway patrol police station hidden by some tall trees, it’s got easy access to the M27)

Anyway, Plod did a UTurn, both me and grandad followed him until he’d stopped AngryAudi near Adelaide and we then gave statements whilst AngryAudi tried to explain his Dickish driving to a very interested Plod.. subsequently Plod said to stop these lane chasers was to make your car really wide by driving in the middle of the road blocking entrance to the roundabout.. seems a bit severe but I do, and plenty of others too, do drive in the middle of the roundabout (it is tight, really only meant for one car anyway)
It’s a delight to see dicks turn frantic as they get squeezed out, like watching a porkchop in a blender.

I’ve seen cars mount the central reservation (small triangle dividing the oncoming traffic from the traffic exiting the roundabout, and it’s a pedestrian reservation) I’ve seen two fights there between white van men and normal folks all as we queue waiting to get past the blockage.

I have to say, it’s those that seem to have “entitlement” to the roads that cause such dickish behaviour, normally low rent BMWs, Audis, big Beemer 4x4s and white vans and shitty Peugeots…

Did you ask for Asda using a “Subject Access Request”? There should be a whole head office department dealing with SARs. Inform them that it’s due an assault by one of their van drivers using one of their vans.

The van video should be good as Asda will use it to cover themselves- Addison Lee have fitted video to all their taxis due to some high cost payouts e.g. person run over but not killed, person was drunk lying in road at night but no video so no extenuating circumstances, full payout.

that cheeky queue jumper is carrying a medical radioisotope with a half life measured in minutes for either the imaging or treatment of a patient – probably cancer. If anyone should be allowed to queue jump it’s them and I’m glad they had a ‘assertive’ driving style. The PCs should have let them in.

On kind of the other side, I was once sat behind someone waiting to turn right onto a main road in the highlands. Literally nothing had passed in the minute or so I’d waited behind them so I thought **** this and nipped up the inside of them, and pulled out.

They reported me to the police (in my wife’s car we were just selling, yay!). The police came round but accepted that really I hadn’t done anything wrong as there was zero reason for them to have been sitting there for that long.

There was, uh, another incident that was more road rage but I’ll not go into that. I’m a much calmer man these days (and my car has less dents on already) (and I promise there was space ahead of them, and no way past except a little nudge)

Aged 15 I was on my bike, waiting to leave the school driveway and cross the busy A1 dual-carriageway in Gosforth to join my GF and her pal on the opposite pavement. The school’s resident Mark Tony ice-cream van came up behind me, waited, then pushed my bike out into the traffic with his front bumper. Naturally I turned round and said “What the hell are you doing?” Thought no more of it, crossed, got off the bike and walked up the road with my GF. Suddenly the ice cream van bounced up onto the pavement in front of us and the driver jumped out, ran over, said “My mate says you told me to **** off!”and BANG thumped me in the face. My GF’s friend got the reg and the Police went round and arrested him, told me later he needed 7 stitches where my front tooth had gashed his hand. Both my front teeth were broken and I had to endure many sessions at the dentist having crowns made. The bloke had done robbery with violence before but got let off with a fine. I went before the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board who awarded me £290, which I drank in liquid form quite quickly. I still have the original crowns about 46 years later, the dentist was a good one.

if it’s that urgent they would be transporting it with a blue light escort – they don’t get to break the law because they’re carrying something urgent which isn’t urgent enough to require anything other than an ordinary van.
