Hi, I have a rare opportunity to ride in the Lakes this Sat afternoon 3-4 hours on a gravel bike.

Coming from North so can be dropped off anywhere really but not too far west as the fam will be getting back on M6 heading south.  Needs to end close to Oxenhome, WIndermere or Staveley as I will be getting train home.

Inital thoughts were a north to south ride from Pooley Bridge area towards Staveley. Map suggests lots of bridleways (Roman road?) but reality is I don’t know how rideable these are.   Don’t want a bogfest or anything too technical/rocky. DOnt mind the odd hike a bike over a pass.  Keen to avoid Grizedale as ridden there loads and possibly a bit far west anyway.

Any suggestions for a vague route?

    cheers

Depends how much road you want really. Over to the Askham area is all good tracks, then you are basically heading eventually for Gatescarth Pass which will be mostly hike a bike up but not too rough down. Then a bit more pushing up and over to Stile End and Kentmere.

The most direct (and, to be honest, pretty scenic) way from Askham is via road along Thirlmere. Trying to incorporate Sleddale/Mosedale will involve plenty of bog and pushing after the rain over the last week or so.

I was going to suggest the same as martinhutch and start in Askham as not too far from M6 and suitable for a gravel bike.

Arkham or Staveley good places to start, esp if you only have 3 hours. Other option is round Windermere see the lakes gravel Facebook page.
