we stayed here, local facilities 10 mins walk to Grantown (pubs, indian, chipshop, cafs, much quieter than Aviemore

(*wigwam does 2 fine, fridge, heater, kettle, take sleeping bag/bedding and we used a camoing gas cooker)

    Second the ‘Ravens craig’.
They have rooms in the actual house, or guest mini lodges in the car park. Very clean and gorgeous large breakfast.

Close to the main shops, cafes and facilities.

Stayed at Ravenscraig once; particularly enjoyed the sound of the neighbouring room occupants pissing and farting in the shower room, not. The walls are thin, you have been warned… 😉

If you’re going to the Ravenscraig, see if you can get in one of the outside “cabins”. A bit more roomy and also quieter than the main house. Stayed there a three times now (winter) and been very happy. The owners were also very cool about letting us store our kit for a few nights when we wanted to go bivvying.

Actually now I think about it. I got talking to a guy at the Bothy Bikes car park a month or two ago who was raving about the bunkhouse at Slochd

we’ve stayed at slochd, it’s very nice – Ian the owner won the world porridge making championships a couple of months after we were there. A bit a of a trek (well a 10 minute drive) from Aviemore though

Always worth checking out the rates at the Cairngorm Hotel. Nice folk and a real pub downstairs.

Old Ministers for the win. We stayed at the Ravenscraig before but frankly the Old Ministers is a cut above in terms of quality of accommodation, breakfast and friendliness. We had a particularly surly encounter in the Ravenscraig when they got a breakfast order wrong. It shouldn’t have been a big deal but the woman who was serving came across like Kevin and Perry. It was like Fawlty Towers. “You ordered this!” Errr, no I didn’t. Cue one flounce from the waitress. Shame as the rooms were nice.

For dinner, Andersons on Boat of Garten is hard to beat. Amazing ice cream selection!

Oooh, Dalrachney Lodge in Carrbridge for the win – eat in the bar, same food as the restaurant but cheaper prices. Haggis neeps ‘n’ tatties for starter, then venison for mains. Nom Nom Nom, as they say

    Thanks for the guidance!

Corker of a weekend in Aviemore last weekend over NYE (staying in a hut)…there wasn’t enough snow or ice but we did a fun gully on Sneachda and then climbed Braeriach the next day. The Braeriach climb was meant to be an easy day out, but extreme weather meant it got quite serious quite quickly…GPS saved our arses and even still we all got blown over walking down the steep snow slope from the summit down to Lairig Ghru…had to walk through there and the Chalamain gap using headtorches. A fun day out

Back again on the 18th (possibly Torridon or Ft Bill) and then again on the 28th if anyone’s in town then.

Just to confirm stayed in the Ravenscraig (one of the cabins) and loved it.
