Have emailed Cotic about this, but thought I’d ask here while waiting for a response.

Have just built up a new Rocket frame using the 1×10 drivetrain from my now retired Alpine (XT cranks, One Up n/w 32T, SRAM GX rear mech, SRAM X0 shifter, SRAM cassette with 40T Hope T Rex, KMC 10 speed chain).

I built all this onto the Alpine myself and it worked flawlessly. Having transferred it all over to the Rocket I can get it indexing OK but can’t get the chain to shift onto the 40T expander at all – the shifter will click into that gear but the mech just won’t move far enough over no matter what I do to the limit screws or B adjuster.

Can’t see an obvious reason why this is happening, so no idea how to begin adjusting to resolve it.

Any ideas or do some frames just not play nicely with some setups? Knowing Cotic’s attention to detail can’t see it being the latter…

    New cable / better routing?

Disconnect the cable, will it go onto the big cog by hand?

New cable fitted. Routing is semi internal, so pretty fixed (and presumably designed to be a decent route).

Shifter won’t physically move far enough across, even with cable disconnected.

Seems like the mech hanger is just too far out from the wheel, but that can’t be right surely?

Are the h/L screws preventing it moving far enough in either direction?

Also, not sure if your mech has this but mine has a metal washer with a spur that the b screw rests on, is that the right way round?

Edit.. Is the chain to short to get onto the big cog, if you’ve transferred the chain onto a new frame it might be a few links too short (don’t ask me how I know this 😉 )

Take the chain off, does the mech now reach the big cog?

    😳 😳 😳

It seems ‘a mate’, even though he has set up loads of drivetrains over the years, was actually turning the low limit screw the wrong way each time ‘he’ tried to adjust it…

Lesson here is: don’t let “your mates” do it – you won’t have any problems if you do it yourself… 😆

Ahh a ‘mate’ you say, I’ve got a ‘mate’ like that 😉

    for future reference.

adjust the derailleur limit screws before you put the chain on.

10 speed I’ve found the easiest to set up.

That’s a coincidence, we must have the same ‘mate’

You’ll need to re-set the gears. The Syntace hanger is a little lower and wider than most other peoples’ to make getting the wheel in and out easier, but it will mean re-tuning the mech. Undo the cable and start from scratch.

If I was you I’d give your mate a hoof in the….oh, ah….I see…”a mate” eh?
