I was driving through Surrey last week when I saw a nice old soft-top, something like a Daimler Dart, then a man walking down the pavement in pink trousers, then one of those horrible Bentley SUV things. You don’t see that in Swansea! 😀

Salmon pink or mustard troos have never been a good look. I did, many years ago, have a pair of red jeans, but that was well before this sort of faux-country set clobber became popular. Mine were ruined after I spilt a bottle of copier toner over them. Never bought another pair. Or white/stonewashed/acid washed or other artificially pre-worn denim either, for that matter.

Thought red trousers was more the territory of the Born to Rule brigade.

    Gammondom is open to all

Aren’t red trousers in town now ironic hipster?

Was chatting to a guy once who said “just because I’m wearing red trousers doesn’t mean I’m posh”. No, you’re posh because you inherited half of Herefordshire.

Thepurist, if it is who I think it is, she wasn’t one for red trousers. Other items of red clothing, however…

In less than taking a dozen steps I saw 3, yes 3, red trousered gammons and this wasn’t Waitrose. Couldn’t help chuckling to myself.

I don’t see Red trousers and Gammon as the same subset. Red trouser is middle aged or older upper middle class Waitrose shopper*. He likes an upturned collar too. Gammon is Mr Angry of Wetherspoons. Red trousers reads the Telegraph. Gammon reads the Daily Mail. Wind a red trouser up about politics and they’ll cough and splutter then say you didn’t go to a proper school so your views don’t count. Wind a gammon up about politics and they’ll get angry enough to be unable to form a coherent sentence then threaten to deck you before realising they are having a heart attack.

They may have the same opinion on Brexit and both vote tory but they got there by different routes.
