We will be in touch
i recently bought somee used but very good condition fox forks from someone on here and im having a bit of a problem with them. i was told the lowers had been serviced by the bloke who i got them off but it seems that the travel isnt adjusting properly, it goes down to 100mm fine and returns to 120mm fine but as soon as i flick it to 140mm i have to get off the bike and hold the wheel of the ground for the fork to fully extend.anyone have any idea why this is happening? do they need sending to mojo for a full service? or should i service the lowers and see if this works?
thanks.
i've always had to unweight my 2007 TALAS forks (2 sets) to get them to extend. quite adept at popping a wheelie or inpromptu manual now 🙂
edit, they are even slower to extend when it's really cold
Same here with 36 TALAS, they dont extend against any pressure on them. only takes a second when you unweight them though.
yeah i have tried that but i have to manual for about 20 seconds to get them to pop to 140 😆 not so easy to manual or wheelie for that long before a rocky rooty wet muddy decent.lol
Could try some fork juice or similar if it has new/tight seals.
i dont think its the seals because its fine from 100 to 120 its just really slow back to 140
my guess is if they are not extended promptly that the guy who serviced them didn't get enough pressure in the TALAS chamber (170psi IIRC) as the proper valve tool cost £70+ and pressurizing the chamber with a football valve trick is really a two man job and still quite tricky. Its also a tricky job lining up the TALAS lever mechanism.
They do go that way over time, seals swell, stiction builds up. They probably will need servicing and they are PITA to do yourself. I've used TFTuned both times mine needed a full service.
would some TF2 EXTREME WET chain lube be ok to lube the seals?
Sounds like the Talas system needs a service.
might get them booked in when i have some pound notes
would some TF2 EXTREME WET chain lube be ok to lube the seals?
My advice would be to send them to mojo when you have the money for a service as they will change the top half of the talas system for a newer version which has a better lever and internal workings, also doing away with the chamber which needs the special tool and the top part which is a pain in the arse to set up correctly. As people have said its normal to have to un-weight the front wheel.
they will change the talas part in the £109 price or is it extra?
