Yup, in fact it’s only Schumacher, Verstappen and to some extent Vettel that come immediately to mind where that wasn’t the case. You could argue, though, that 1993 was the first time (well, in my memory at least) that we saw a world champion engineering themselves into a dominant position by way of controlling the second seat.
