I know this has been discussed on here to death but anyway for one more time, I am building up a 29er and have a set of ISIS cranks that I was going to use, need a new bottom bracket so what would you recommend.
I've never had any problems with my ISIS signature XS bottom bracket. I've had it since 2001 (or whenever the first batch of ISIS stuff arrived at Silverfish) and it's only had the bearings changed once.
None:(. Sell the isis chainset and get a hollowtech one. The isis b/b no matter what type are sh**e

I've just put a crank brothers one on my Spider, not done enough miles yet to know whether it'll last but seems ok so far.
superstar. had mine 12 months, still way smoother and less drag than any outboard system.
FSA platinum. The one on my SS has lasted nearly a year so far...

Superstar is the only one I've had not pack in after a few months. Others have included, Crank Bros, Race Face, FSA and Truativ ... all shot in side 6 months.
Superstar ... 18 months and still going strong.

My superstar bb was lasting well, then I snapped my cranks!!!!!
(Race face bbs were lasting about 2-3 months with me)

Shimano UN-53. Cheap and cheerfu! Mind you, ISIS bottom brackets only last a short while (like all modern BBs).
You can't beat the original ball bearing type. They go on and on for years if properly adjusted and maintained. A blob of grease and a set of new bearings costs pennies. Easy!
I believe manufacturers got rid of these to speed up production and save on labour. The newer technology means that owners have to keep shelling out £££'s at frequent intervals to keep their machines roadworthy by replacing an entire BB.
Cartridge bearings can be replaced on later BBs, but these bearings are expensive.
It's a wasteful scam that makes the industry a nice bit of ongoing revenue IMHO.
Nobody mentioned SKF yet?
They're often considered the only decent ISIS BB, but I've only had mine since April so can't comment on longevity. Mind you, 4 months is already longer than some ISIS BBs last!
+1 for SKF. Have their stainless model, BFR600? on 3 bikes for 4 years and they're all good as new.
