I want to fit a register plate in the chimney
I've got a cast iron gas fire that looks like a wood burner
Is it best to build a frame out of angle then screw it to that?
I also wanted to put a bit of insulation on the back of the register plate as the house is freezing, so I'm insulating anything I can
Should I use Rockwool? If so is it the slab stuff or the roll?
I just bent a lip on a sheet of steel and screwed straight through the lip into the wall, but angle would be better prob.
Rockwool is what they use in twinwall flue so should be OK for the insulation - whichever type.
I am not an installer though and may be talking tosh!
I used four lengths of angle to mount the register plate to, and used rolls of Rockwool to insulate above the plate, I have a flue running up through mine from the log burner so needed to use Rockwool for the fire rating.
