I would really like to do some sort of trail side first aid course, as it’s usually just my husband and I riding in some fairly remote places we thought it may be a good idea! Has anyone done one of these?
Im in the bristol area and I’m not sure where to look.

    For basics
    – Red Cross
    – St Johns ambulance

for more specific ones – google

The BASP was recommended (*as injuries likely to be indentical to mtb), and apologies for ranting on your thread but when I looked into it there seemed to be so many courses/approving bodies/authorities and standards, all of which were the best….

Did m2m twice after St Johns……..

I have not done one but commonly recommended is the ski patrollers one as it is more relevant to the scenarios that MTBers face rather than a general one

Another thumbs up for the basp course. As said above, it tends to be a bit more than basic first aid as it considers you might be some distance/time away from an ambulance or other assistance. TBH – my (nurse) wife was horrified at some of the recommendations e.g. about having to relocate victims even though they might be badly injured.

That reminds me – I should really do another one. Any more volunteers in the Edinburgh area if I organise one?

Sometimes they may have to be moved, like where I work involves working in water and on steep slippery banks with chainsaws.

Indeedy. Most “normal” first aid courses tell you not to move them.

Just looking at the BASP price list. Looks like we’re talking £750 for a two-day course. That can be for up to 10 participants. At £75 a head, I’m in. I guess I should really start a new thread though….apologies to the OP.

Thanks everyone just the kind of info I was after. I hope I won’t ever have to use any first aid skills but a good idea to be prepared! 🙂

I’d highly recommend the REC course at Plas y Brenin, especially as it’s taught by real Mountain Rescue Team members
