That's the Way, Immigrant Song, Kashmir, Black Dog.
Oh, and Ramble On. And The Ocean.
And In The Light. And When The Levee Breaks.
Dammit, there's too many.
Actually, Stairway to Heaven ain't that bad either.
Can't believe no one has mentioned 'Nobody's Fault but Mine' or'Achilles Last Stand' – Presence is my favourite album, like a shorter, neater version of Physical Graffiti. Even if the first song is ten minutes long.
Both been said but Ramble on & Bonzo at the beginning of When The Levee Breaks.
Great book – When Giants Walked The Earth by Mick Wall all about Led Zep & how they came to be & what they were. About the best music type book I have read.
Wow, too many,
Nobodys fault but mine,
houses of the holy,
Rock N Roll,
But my fave, comunication breakdown. Cast your mind back to earthed 1, Sam Hill, Bryn Atkinson and Nathan Rennie on bright yellow IronHorse's smashing Bromont. It wasn't a coincidence that my next two bikes were IronHorse and my CD rack filled up with Led Zep.
I never really realise how much I like Led Zep until a thread like this crops up and I start thinking about my favourites and the 'short' list just gets longer and longer. But of them all, Thank You always wins.
Zep 4 was the album that got me into the band, borrowed a mate's copy and taped it using the microphone on my Philips N2204 portable. Then pissed him off after I got to Smiths on the day Houses Of The Holy came out and bought it before he got out of work and they were closed. Ha! Always liked Stairway, and Battle Of Evermore, because of Sandy Denny, but I guess my two favourite tracks have to be Trampled Under Foot and Kashmir, as they followed on on the album. Something about those two just gets the hairs standing up. Saw them performed live at Earls Court, too. Awesome.
seems to me that many of us agree so many of their tracks were great and albums too! it good that it's difficult to choose and something like this defines a truly great band.
Impossible to choose just one! With the possible exception of in through the out door all their albums are classics. Can't think of another band I have listened to more over the past 35years. Now my kids are in to them too its great to hear Rock and Roll and Black Dog blasting out of my 13year olds room.
Led Zep have so many good tunes that picking my favourite becomes very context specific for me –
Driving home on a cold dark night on an empty A9 – live version of No Quarter ( followed on playlist by live version of Better Living Through Chemistry by QoTSA)
Chilling on deck at home last night looking at the stars with my wife – Rain Song.
TonyL – 'In through the out door' had its merits …the original vinyl had the paint by numbers thing on the inner sleeve. Just apply a damp brush to the picture of the guy in a bar (I think) and the colours came to life = awesome!
In My Time Of Dying is probably a standout, as is Dazed and Confused. Never really thought these tracks were all that brilliant until I got to see them live, which brought them, well, to life.
And I'm not ashamed to say that Stairway is still an absolute favorite.
It is ironic, is it not, that most people will state that 'Stairway' is their least liked number, that being the one that most people identify with the band?
I don't like it either, except for the drums. JB was the finest drummer ever IMO; we lost a very, very special musician when we lost him. I'm still a bit upset about it TBH.
Yeah, Bonham is one of the greatest drummers of all time, some of the fills in 'Achilles' are unbelievable, made a lot of the songs what they are -'Dazed and Confuzed' just wouldn't be the same with anyone else. Oh, and instead of buying one of those daft carbon Scotts or Treks that people post about on here, check this out:
