So my 5 year old CCDBair IL (upgraded from original inline) has developed a slow leak, service kits seem thin on the ground and you need specialist tools to get at the innards.

Annoyingly it was serviced last year when I swapped frame and had the i2i and stroke changed.

The wait for a service by tftuned or j-tech is close to 2 weeks and will cost north of £130 once couriers are factored in. So no bike for 2 weeks. Even on lockdown rules that is hard to bear.

So, should I just bite the bullet and buy another (or similar priced alternative?) as 5 years is an acceptable life span or pony up 40% of new shock price for another service in the hope of getting another year out of it?

Where in the world are you??

slick and slide in Macclesfield do cane creek service. I’m local(ish) do I tend to book a slot to drop off and pick up next day. Obviously you can post to him as well.

I suspect the cost, if you have to courier Will be similar but if you like be shock it’s worth servicing, if you’re looking for an excuse to upgrade however…..

I can’t recommend Ric highly enough. Really knows his stuff and does an excellent job!

Thanks, based in Dundee so would need to post. Not looking to upgrade, just service or swap like for like. But can’t quite decide which makes more financial sense, particularly as I don’t know whether the issue is non-serviceable or everything else is fine but one seal is worn after 11 months…..

I use RSF suspension, no issues with Dave at all. Website not the best but give him a call he’s always available to talk.

Base Camp Suspension are a Cane Creek service center if you want one in Scotland, they were booked up last time I spoke to them, most places are busy!

Personally I am not a fan as Cane Creek will not sell service kits or provide service info.

Somebody has kindly uploaded the Double Barrel service manual

You could always send it in for a service, most places will call you if anything beyond seals are damaged, then make a decision based on the price of any additional parts.

Most services will have short warranty (3 months for TF Tuned), a new shock will normally have a 2 year warranty. (if that is a consideration for you)

Might just be the valve core.

If you can still get Manitou Mcleods dirt cheap (150 quid) they’re not bad for an inline shock and relatively easy to service and maintain!

    Second hand dpx2 elite
    Or anything with adjustable LSC

Cost of a seal kit & some volume spacers

Being able to tune LSC was a revelation for me getting settup right

how will you not have your bike for 2 weeks? Jtech will pick it up for free a day or so before the service and then send it back out. You’ll be without the shock for 4 days.

    Hi Shackleton

It’s 3 day turnaround with us from collect/fix/ to getting it back to you. Give me (Ruth) a call tomorrow and we can get you sorted.

    Cheers.

I may be shot down in flames but I’m not sure there is an air shock that’s currently available at reasonable price that would be as good as a well well sorted cane creek inline air? I’d go for the service.

    Cheers all.

Will try checking the valve core .

2 weeks is from now (leaky shock) until a day after the next available service date.

@chestercopperpot wins the prize. Replaced valve core, all is well again. Thanks for saving me a costly period sans bike!
