So now the trails are drying out nicely and getting dusty, I find I return home with quite dusty eyes, especially more so at the bike parks during uplift days. I know the obvious answer is get some googles, but don’t want to go that route. Post ride I gently run the shower at low pressure with my eyes slightly open to wash out dirt/dust, it works ok but not that well,  any better techniques? I wondered about using a Optrex saline eye wash after a days riding, or similar?

Dry eye drops such as Hycosan Extra is what you need. Also wear a thin head band under helmet to stop the sweat dragging all the crap off your head into your eyes.

You don’t say if you’re wearing glasses? I presume you are – can you get some with better coverage?

I have hoover eyes and won’t ride without glasses – don’t seem to suffer too badly with dust

and you’re wearing clear-lens eye protection on dull days and shades on sunny ones?

I had this problem some years back. The optician advised a hot flanel held on the eyes for a couple of minutes then repeat. This will soften the fuid in the tear ducts enough to flush the dirt out. You will feel it happen. I do this every day.

Ok, I thought from your first post you just wanted to avoid goggles.

Get some glasses then, they make sense. Dust, mud, branches.

I suppose I’m used to things on my face as I wear glasses normally, but either way, wouldn’t ride without eye protection, barely notice I’m wearing them and they save me getting loads of crap in my eyes. I have watery eyes as well, so glasses stop them streaming as much

Heat mask is a good shout, then Blephaclean to clean the lids then the drops.

You only get one pair of eyes, protect them to stop stuff getting in.

After your clarification I’m amazed you’re thinking wash out later rather than glasses.

I looked stoned if I don’t have glasses or goggles…. End up with dry eyes. Nothing to do with dust.

Can’t imagine not riding with some kind of eye protection…. Be it for the wind, dirt or kamikaze bugs.
