BBC Breakfast did an piece on it yesterday and there’s been stuff floating around on social media (not that I do much of this).

It sounds really nasty and currently they don’t even know what causes the disease – so presumably no cure.

Our dog walking has changed since hearing about this last year. There have been a handful of reported cases locally (Cannock Chase) at the end of last year. All ended up in the affected dogs dieing so whilst it might be a small risk my wife in particular is concerned.

It is not that new.  I live in the New Forest and it has been around for a while.  It is strongly suspected to be water bound

I don’t let the dogs near any water (easy as they don’t like it) and always give their feet a good wash when returning from a walk (luckily they weigh 1600 grams so get washed in the sink!)

    Nasty looking thing.

The risk must still be tiny compared to cancers and bloat surely?

It’s been around for awhile it is an issue it’s not as prolific as made out, in the areas effected it’s a very small amount of dogs actually effected out of what can be large amount of dogs in the area. Worth being vigilant of though as there are concerns.
