I'm based over near Swadlincote so some of my local riding is in the Ticknall area where there are plenty of bridleways, quite easy to get to from Derby on cycle route 66(?), the one that heads south towards Swarkestone. Other than that head north into the Peak.

Lots of riding between Derby and Matlock.

You're not a massive distance from Cannock Chase. Failing that, Allestree Park and Little Eaton woods are quite good. There's also the Chevin trail up near Milford/Duffield, but it's not especially long.

In addition to the above, there are lots of bridleways to bash around Little Eaton, Ilkeston, Shipley Park and out towards Strelley.

There are occasionally some jumps at Drum Hill, if that's your thing, some big woodwork there last summer.

When the weather is too grim for the trails, you can get a good ride in using the cycle paths along the river to Nottingham, or branching off from Trent Lock up to the Nutbrook trail.

One hour from Sherwood Pines, Cannock Chase and the Peaks.

Not a bad place to live for riding, really 😀

I'd rather spend the afternoon in shining cliff woods than cannock.
