Obviously been a clumsy sod and clipped a rock doing something daft…

Its a 290 reactor.  I’m tempted to pull the stay out to see if there any fracture on the inside.

Bit miffed.  Never caught a frame like that before20240617_13184620240617_13183920240617_131745

    Sure it’s not a sticker?

Would probably just send it to my local carbon repair emporium, and accept that getting it fixed and painted black is as good as it’s going to get.

I’d take it apart and just do a simple epoxy resin repair to seal the loose ends and stop the cracks.

Straight to the carbon repairers. That looks quite big for such a small+important area.

Yup, take it to a professional carbon repair shop, or a dedicated proven amateur repairer. That looks like it can still be made rideable.

That’s annoying and unlucky – but on the plus side, easily accessed and looks repairable.

I appreciate that these are all longshots, but there are a few things to try:

    1. The chap who was selling the last few framesets from CRC and Wiggle.
    2. Any way of contacting Hotlines as was, or anybody on here that used to work there? They might have had some warranty parts which I am guessing must still be somewhere physically.
    3. A wanted add for somebody that has a broken front end and might have a rear end in good condition.

Otherwise, it is possibly repairable by an expert but I definitely wouldn’t be riding it like that.

I wouldn’t ride, and unless I was absolutely certain that it wasn’t structural I wouldn’t do the home baked epoxy repair. I’d get it repaired professionally. Bad luck though.

Huck it to flat and see if it breaks.

Its this bit that bothers me, looks like it could be cracked all the way through.

    Oof, that’s rotten luck mate.

Absolutely repairable though. Can be made stronger than original – and no need to be fussy about the paint matching down there.

It was 10 years ago, but I used a place called HQ Fibre in Norfolk who were very reasonably priced.

Or does Rob Hayles still do carbon repairs in the Peak?

That’s borked but easily repairable, carbon bike repair will charge around £250 quid as I recall

Top down view suggests that’s just the paint flaking off, the carbon under it seems OK

Maybe, this just looks like a crack to me. As above though, repairable, but I wouldn’t ride it like that.

Not sure if being sarcastic or not…I hope so!

I usually take an “ah, it’ll be fine” approach to damaged bikes, but yeah – looks like a hefty bite out of the carbon

I would just clean it up, fire some 3M DP490 on there and ride it.

i don’t think it will be a catastrophic failure if it lets go, so maybe give it a ride or two and see if any cracks have grown.

that section is likely to have a metal insert for the bolt, or be monolithic carbon, so will be pretty strong.

and then maybe go down the replacement part investigation.

If you’re going to try a repair, this is the Stuff to use, it has a stronger bond than epoxy. I’ve just used MMA adhesive to repair  the shaft of a carbon kayak paddle that I ran over 😳 – it’s absolutely bomber. 5 minute working time, so you need to get everything prepped and ready

    I’m sending it to target.

I’m off to basque mtb later in the year so to be blunt I’d be happier once its fettled.

That damage looks extensive in an area where the cross section is small. I wouldn’t ride it like that. I’ve used https://carbonbikerepair.co.uk in the past, they were very good.
